Which AVR has better Pre-amp Section?

I have a question about the pre-amp section of 2 AVR's....Yamaha RXA-2070 vs Denon X3700H would be using a Rotel 1552mkii amp to drive my Axiom m80's.Question is the RXA-2070 has only 1 volt coming from the preamp section...from my reading so far not enough for my amp, while the X3700H has over 2 volts more then enough so if true should get the Denon over the Yamaha? Thanks for any insight!!

Have you considered the Denon 8500H?

Both can output 2V, but the Denon has been measured on the bench (audiosciencereview.com) so we know it can output more than 4 V, and at 2 V, distortions would likely be lower than the Yamaha's.

I can’t find numbers for the RX-A2070, but it’s probably similar to the RX-A3060.

THD at 2.83 Volts = 0.008%. It might not be as low as the Denon. But you’re not going to hear any audible distortion.

That's not the preout voltage, but rather the amp's distortion @ the equivalent of 1w/8ohms. That review does not measure preout voltage at all.

If the amp needs 1.5v for full output, either would probably suffice, the Denon for sure.

I would think that that would push the decision to upstream considerations, like Yamaha's YPAO vs. Audessey.
