Save money and get McIntosh doesn't make a lot of sense, watts are watts, and mid-fi is an idiotic marketing terms the 'phool reviewers came up with to somehow say less expensive gear isn't as "hi-fi" which is patent nonsense. I'd rather have most any other amp myself, no desire to have output transformers in play.

A couple things
1) Although it's use is a cult favorite here, the use of the invented term "phool" reflects badly on those that use it.
2) Yes, watts are watts. My preference, my bias prefers to keep good equipment paired with good equipment. You can use an Emotiva XPA-DR2 or a McIntosh MC 462. I don't care but if I can afford it, I am buy the McIntosh for speakers of that quality.
3) The terms mid-fi and high-fi refer to price points. Relax.

The thing is you and I pretty much agree on audio. Where we part ways is that I understand why some prefer owning more expensive gear and you prefer to sneer at that.

I am about 12 feet away from the speakers. Would I drive the speakers deep moire easily and wouild the highs be more detailed and cleaner? My thought is the speakers would not be pushed at higher levels. If you know the MX160, my volumes is set at 14 to 18 depending on the content.

Seriously doubt this thinking process. You are increasing speaker distortions and compressions. Your drivers, especially the tweeters that are very low power capable, will exceed its linear travels and makes it worse.
And, unintended consequence is hearing decrease and loss over time.
ps. your car analogy is pee poor.

Mid fidelity does not refer to a price point as much as some audio snobbery, it's just a stupid term that, to use your words, reflects badly on those that use it....and it is 'phools that use that term it seems. The speakers don't care what "quality" you perceive in an amp either.

Here we agree. But the point is not to make the speakers happy, it is to make the listener happy.
You should respect others. Secure people do.

'Watts are Watts' I agree but amplifier ratings can be quite misleading, resistive vs reactive capability being one of the biggest differences

not really, the sites were speaking of are more about 'gear heads' as opposed to 'music junkies'. Anybody that's been around those sites for any amount of time can quickly spot what I'm talking about. Regardless, it's all fun...
