Denon or Onkyo or ???

I mentioned before that my older pioneer in the bedroom runs hotter than any other AVR I’ve experienced. It’s still working great. @PENG mentioned being within normal operating ranges. Heat doesn’t help, but I can’t believe that after 800 years of consumer electronics the engineering department ever thought about heat.

I'm not a receiver engineer but I worked with computer engineers as we watched the tug of war between cool operation vs size in the first 10 years of laptop design. It was always a trade off between size and heat. I remember Apple not wanting to call them laptops in the early days as they could actually burn the lap...

As electronic design matured the heat coefficient became important and todays laptops are amazingly cool running compared to 15 years ago. Maybe receiver technology will eventually incorporate cooler running designs that have the capability to extent life expectancy of the product? Or maybe they don't want that?

My 12+ year old reciever from Sony is also made in Malaysia, which easily sounds better than Denon X2300W.

My Yamaha runs Farley cool but I only use the inboard amps for the front presence and the rear surrounds as the main channels I use carver amps for the front mains and center and side surrounds . With that being said Iam not sure if useing the preamp outs switch off the amps or not in the avr for those channels it would help it run cooler if so . Even if not it still runs pretty cool to touch and the outboard amps are almost cool to touch and that’s driving them hard . Now the Comcast dvr throws off heat you can feel a foot away and it has a internal fan to cool it too . I often let the whole system run at idle for days unless storms are in the forecast .

Lower cost could also be cause its most probably made in Vietnam or China, as opposed to Yamaha which is made in Malaysia.

Do you really think one is better then the other. Do you understand the influence China has on both Vietnam and Malaysia. Do you understand how Vietnam is becoming a world leader in manufacturing because of location. And the quality of product being produced from Vietnam and Malaysia are rising. It also cost more in production in Vietnam and Malaysia because of their smaller size but then again they will also take smaller orders than they do in China. There is not enough information to determine whether one country verse another is better at manufacturing or has higher quality standards.

And by the way do you know what else is produced in Malaysia, Hot Wheels cars.

I use two monster power centers to run everything threw already they work great . In reality the Comcast box is just what it is junk and this one is loud you can here the fan run in it when the room is quiet lol .but as I’ve suspected there mass produced in a dark alley somewhere

i use two monster power centers for the whole system the Comcast dvr box is on its own outlet as lighting took it out and my AVR a couple years back . Most of these boxes are made in a dark alley someplace over seas it requires it’s own built in fan that never shuts off and can be herd when my room is quite myself Iam suspicious of something that small that requires constant cooling lol .I often at least once a year change this box out for a newer model you could use any of them as an emergency hot plate in a pinch .

Bottom line - obviously both Yamaha and Denon/Marantz products are successful and have many loyal owners. I call this the DMY brands.

Some prefer Yamaha based on their great experiences. Some prefer Denon/Marantz based on their great experiences.

There are also bad experiences of both brands.

It’s good to share our experiences - good and bad.

But I don’t think we should get too personal and try to force our personal experiences on everyone else who don’t have the same experiences.

Some think Yamaha sounds better, some think Marantz sounds better, some think Denon sounds better, some think all three DMY brands sound the same in Direct Modes.

Whatever works the best for us is the best. Let’s be understanding.

At the end of the day, it’s about enjoying those movies, TV shows, and music, not about forcing our opinions on others.

Always look for E-arc and the latest formats such as HDR10+.

I miss my Sammy plasma 3D tv and my Sammy 3D blu-ray player and my 3D glasses.
Also my Onkyo THX-NR818. All crapped out on me within 3 years of getting them. I sold the glasses off for10 buck. But if they were made in Malaysia I still have them.
