I have been waiting to purchase a new Denon avr-x4700h but this review has me second guessing my choice. They pretty much destroy the Denon in this article. Does this guy have any credibility? He didn’t do any listening tests... just measurements.

I just posted something about such anticipated concern, please take a read and I appreciate any feedback.

So will this unit handle the following setup:

SVS Pinnacle Towers
SVS Ultra Center
SVS Ultra Surrounds in Duet Mode (so 4 channels)
SVS Elevations x 4 Atmos
SVS PB-4000 Sub

Total 11 speakers

Thanks

The Denon 4700 is a 9 channel amp with 11 channel preamp. My Denon 4700 has a 7.2.4 configuration attached. I use external amps to power all speakers. But you could easily make it work with a stereo external amp as well.

When you setup the 4700 simply go to amp assign and select the 11 channel option with the fronts in preamp mode. Then use a quality amp for your fronts and the rest on the 4700.

You can also use any combination of external amps and the internal amps.

Here are some options:
1. You can go with the 6700 for $800 more and have all speakers on the receiver OR...

2. You could purchase the Denon 4700 and two Outlaw 2220 mono blocks with 200W per channel for the fronts at $699.

The other thing I would do is ask https://listenup.com or your favorite reseller for a discount on the receiver. It's not unusual to be able to negotiate a 10% off deal. Sometimes listen up offers this simply for signing up for their email list.

Don’t worry. Absolutely nothing wrong with the X4700. Denon will talk to him and straighten it out overnight. Like the Emotiva pre-pro measurements that went from bad to awesome overnight. :D
