If you ever go deeper into measuring you system and room with REW or OmniMic, this becomes a necessity. highfigh Seriously, I have no life. Oct 31, 2020 #4 The best sounding mic stand I have used is........ Really? AVRs come with one. Use whatever- it's not going to magically cause the sound to be perfect and those auto-configuration programs are designed for more casual listeners than serious hobbyists, anyway.

Teetertotter? Audioholic Chief Oct 31, 2020 #6 I have a wood bar stool from target, that my mic sits on top, which is about at ear level and in line with front speakers, with my arrangement. Surround tweeters are 22" above ear level and angled downward.

It does, and that is what I use for my Audyssey microphone. I have this one and it works great (and can collapse short enough to set on the seat and adjust the mic at ear level) and only $17: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XI87KV8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 A boom mic stand is probably a little nicer in some ways, but the tripod collapses more compact and can also work with any camera (although those are almost extinct)!

Professionals will use a real stand but at home, the cardboard is fine. If necessary, it can be reinforced before the first time.

I think that would be too short for measureme3nt from the seat. Also, I did not mean to imply that I do not use it in the extended position as well.

Well, unless you would want to set up a specific EQ for laying down.

Click to expand... Free is good. Parts Express is good, too. PE contacted me a few weeks ago about an account credit that was on their books. I didn't even know about it and even though it was only ten bucks, it was lost in the shuffle when they changed computer systems. They sent a check for a ten dollar credit that was created in 2009.
