Yamaha AVR problems

Howdy. My subwoofer was not coming on from my three year old Yamaha RX-A1060. Connection is fine. Sub comes on manually, but no signal. The speaker icons show only L/R in 2 channel mode. Should also display the sub icon unless I was in "straight" program. I tried other DSP programs and none show the sub icon on. So I tried factory reset. Still same. Then I thought maybe go through the set up with my tablet. Went through all the way to where you turn on the receiver and the app finds the receiver to set your settings. Well, wifi could not locate it! Tried several times. My wifi is fine. Anything else anyone can think of to try or is my RX-A1060 fried?

If possible, and I realize it will probably be a giant PITA, move the router to the AVR so you can hard wire it. Once that has been connected, go into the menu, find its IP address and log in with your tablet.

WiFi has been sold as the answer to everyone's connection problems and it isn't. WiFi is for convenience, wired is for performance.

I have a Yamaha MusicCast WXC-50 and occasionally, I need to disconnect power and the ethernet cable- maybe you could disconnect power and reboot your router to see if it restores the connection.

Thx, but that is not practical. I could disconnect everything and bring the AVR to the router to temporarily hard wire it to the router. What do you think of that? Might be an option, but I wonder if the settings would be complete if it knows that you have nothing hooked up.

Wifi connection has never been an issue before. It should find my receiver like it always has effortlessly.

If the sub doesn’t work or show up on the Yamaha’s display indicator, you don’t have it activated in the menu. It should probably be set for “Sub + Front” to work universally. With mine, the ”Sub” setting only got the sub with 5.1

It will do the same thing, but is it really more difficult to move the router? The settings don't change when it's disconnected- that connection only serves to allow control via a computer, tablet or control system that has IP commands.

I would need a 100 ft cable from my modem. So this is just not a good option.

Why? You don't need to be connected to the internet to set up the AVR with your tablet, just to the router. The only reason you would need the internet is if you want to do an update and you're only trying to connect to the router and make changes to the AVR setup.

So now I see that the sub is coming on on some, not all DSP programs. The sub is displayed on 7 ch stereo, DD surround, all 7 or 8 movie theater and entertainment options, but the sub does not come on with the live club and classical options. Someone with a Yamaha AVR, correct me if if I am wrong, but should not the sub be on on all of these? Including 2 channel, which has me most concerned. Not talking about straight or direct because I know these options do not include the sub.

I have a customer who would occasionally call to say that the dialog had disappeared when they used Netflix and when I went into the menu, I found that it had been set up for 5.1, which is ridiculous because it's driving two in-ceiling speakers in the kitchen. I didn't install it, but came in later to add some other items and finish the wiring that had been basically abandoned by the previous contractor. I turned off the surround, center and sub speakers and fixed the problem. Go into the menu and check your settings again. Also, make sure 'Network Standby' is turned on, then find the IP address and reconnect to the WiFi. Did you change the router or any settings?

The sub should come on for all of the DSP modes, or at least it did on my Yamaha before I put it in a burlap sack and dropped it in the river. I also agree with ethernet connection for every equipped device. I still need to crawl back under my house and finish connecting some of my devices.

I never changed anything. Are you just guessing about that setting? I have never heard of it. Keep in mind, the sub is working with some options.

I had the same issue with my Yamaha. Look in the sub settings menu.

I took the receiver into the room with the router and plugged in the router. Then went through the settings etc on the app. It found the receiver wired. Scrolled through and sub icon didn't change. Went through it again this time router unplugged, because I need the wifi to use my tablet for occasional use watching netflix, etc. It did not find the receiver wirelessly again. I think the receiver is bricked. Comments?

Alright, but I still have the wifi issue. So seems like more is wrong than that. I'll check the sub settings.

Is subwoofer turned on in the manual setup menu?

Is the source 5.1 Dolby Digital? If only 2.0 source, do you use Dolby Surround (DSU) to make it upmix?

I usually leave Dolby DSU on full time for my streaming of video and choose “straight” only with Blu rays.

No sub settings to adjust that would add it to 2 channel, etc.

I go 5.1.2 (5 plus front presence) in that room. Everything was set up correctly and worked properly until today. No one (I live alone) changed anything.
Snakeeyes, the sub is working on some DSP options.

I think you broke it. You can put all of the doilies you like on top of the speakers, but NOT on top of the receiver. They get HOT!
