Looking for 7.2 AVR for impedance of 2.5 ohm speakers

Hi,

Can someone tell me what AVR to use for Bose Omnijewel speakers (2.5 ohm impedance)?

I had these Bose Omnijewel speakers set that are originally for Bose Lifestyle 650. It's 2.5 ohm impedance for 4 satellite speakers , and center soundbar with R and L of 2.5 ohm; C is 4 ohm.

I checked most of AVR on the market are designed for 6 ohm impedance speakers. I am concern if connect these low impedance speakers to normal AVR that will cause damage of AVR or speaker itself.

Hope I can get good advice from you guys.

It’s pretty hard to damage AVRs these days, as they all have protection circuitry that shuts them down before damage occurs.

That said, you will not find any 7-channel AVR that will run for long at that impedance. The demand for more and more channels has taken its toll, and the result is fewer and fewer that can handle 4-ohm loads, whereas it used to be no problem for old stereo receivers. A 7-channel amp that can handle 4-ohm speakers can be very heavy – mine weighs 65 lbs.

Indeed, it’s even getting hard for multichannel amps to handle 8-ohm loads at any appreciable wattage. The reason they have started rating their amplifiers at 6-ohms is that it lets them publish a higher number for their wattage figures.

Bottom line, only (some) pro-audio amplifiers can handle 2-ohm loads, and they are typically only two-channel. It would cost well over $1000 for enough of them to run your speakers. I have a feeling you won’t think they are worth spending that much money for.

If their nominal impedance really is that low, you will save yourself a lot of misery (and money) by buying different speakers instead of hunting for a unicorn AVR.

The Bose Omnijewel are satellite speakers that work wireless off their soundbar

If those are satellite speakers, 2.5 ohms isn't that uncommon. They typically are powered by HTIAB, sound bar kind of weak amplifiers anyway so I doubt they could take much power anyway, regardless of their impedance. I bet any entry level D+M, Yamaha, or any major brand real AVRs should be more than sufficient to drive them. Do you have a spec sheet that you can post? If the spec sheet has enough details then we can know for sure.
