What to get for my first power amp?

Thanks, I know everyone says you can’t hear AMPs and I guess I believe that assuming a certain level of quality. I mean I can’t help but think a super cheap crap AMP wouldn’t sound the same as your Halo or why would anyone ever buy the Halo? Maybe longevity. But assuming good quality then I guess it’s a bit of a commodity then. been curious to pick up some 2200s but no need to replace a comparable amp with those until they are needed.

And I do agree that quality of source content makes all the difference
Agreed, my amp comments would only be relevant to amps that are well beyond the curve of diminishing return. If an amp (cheap or not) specs claimed 1% THD, measured at 1 kHz driving 8 Ohms, and data for IMD, SNR, DN, then of course it most likely will sound different than an amp that claimed 0.1% THD+N, 20-20,000 Hz from 100 mW to rated output, and provide IMD, SNR, DR specs that are average to above average.

My preamps and power amps don't sound better to me than my AVR for my listening habit, so I finally let my 4BSST go last year, but I am not selling any of the remaining ones (may be the Halo A21 eventually as it has been collecting dust..), because I like their build quality, robustness, and the feeling that they are indestructible, and I know if once in a while I want to crank things up while I am alone, and are sure that my neighbors have gone to work or cottage, I can do so without getting headache from distortions.:D What I find amazing is how people heard night and day difference when I could tell it was Placebo at work, and/or not really comparing apple to apple, based on circumstantial evidence they provided (sometime subsequently when questions were asked).

Stable Clean Power is why.

Oh yeah, when dudes see a fancy chassis and knobs these days, it already sounds better!
Truth is, the dude's RX-A3080's amp section is already cream of the crop in the class AB receiver line at this price range (for the 7 speaker setup he's choosing to run). None of the crapola sht that's thrown around (Monoprice. parasound, emotiva. whatever) is a step up from what he already has. I suggested some class A Chinese amps as they can be a step up at this price range, depending on his listening habit (if he's listening to orchestras with a cluster of instruments, high dB levels, etc). It can work well if he diversifies into a 2 channel/multichannel hybrid system and stay futureproofed for speaker upgrades. Beyond that, he's looking at dropping 30k for a step up. I would suggest that the dude save his cash and stay happy with his RX-A3080. But, be happy with what ya got?? that is a rarity in this crowd.

I decided to support local and bought a D-Sonic M3A-1200-3. Met Dennis on Saturday and pick it up. Installed it into the rack on Sunday, but have to wait until the Monoprice XLR cables come in to hook it up. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for all the advice.

Congrats! Specs seem pretty good, any measurements available?
