Sound Issues

There is no sound coming through my speakers.I have Denon X4500h and a Samsung tv .The tv is connected to the receiver via the Hdmi arc.There is video content but no sound coming through the speakers.It work the first time when i set it up but it stop .I have tested the receiver with three different Hdmi cables but still there is no sound.Any advise will be appreciated.Thanks

What settings did you enable in both the tv and avr? TV model number?

I figured it out. The Anytime+Hdmi -cec was off.But now the volume is very low as compared to when i am playing from usb files.The music is very loud at 50 volume but when i am playing music from youtube or amazon i have to crank it up to volume 65 to get the same loudness like playing from usb.I have increase the sound level on the receiver to +10db but still cant get enough like i said from playing music on from youtube and amazon.Thanks a lot for the concern.

Did you raise the input level up for the apps? (on my older Denon would be setup - inputs - source level). How are you playing youtube/amazon?

Yes i did raise the sound level to +10.Like i said before when playing music from youtube and amazon via my tv the volume is very low.I have to raise it to 65 to really feel it.On the other hand when playing from usb file i have raise it to only 5O.Thanks for the reply.

Input level was raised by 10dB? (sound level could be a variety of things) If adjusting input level you can always lower the input level of the usb input to help balance them out.

I have found that there has been different volume levels depending on the source device. Some of the source devices may have their own settings outside of the AVR that need to be adjusted. I would check the TV as it sounds like you are using it as the source device and sending the streamed data via HDMI over ARC from the TV to the receiver which would mean the TV is processing the sound if I am correct vs when you are using USB the AVR would be processing the file instead of streaming and may be a completely different recording even if it is the same song for instance over Youtube. At the very least I believe ARC limits the type of audio being sent back depending on how old the device is and cables used (HDMI 1.4 vs 2.1 etc...).

I could be way off but just a bit of my experience is the source definitely matters.

ARC started with HDMI 1.4, and that version only carries lossy multich codecs, like Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS rather than lossless codecs like Dolby True HD or DTS HDMA; HDMI 2.1 can handle the lossless codecs. Some tvs might downmix 5.1 to 2.0 but many pass it thru as well, particularly newer sets (I have an old ARC enabled tv that doesn't even have multich options in the apps to use, everything is 2.0). If it is moved via ARC it remains digital, tho.

I have a Samsung 65 inch curved that depends on the app. CBS app works great and sounds amazing. Vudu works better on my PS4 than from the TV. Switched to an Amazon Fire Stick 4k and only use Vudu from the PS4 now and most streaming seems well balanced aside from the individual shows themselves which can definitely show how good speakers can show bad recordings . As for Music I can definitely say Amazon Prime HD over Wi-Fi sounds better than from the Fire Stick. I believe that's because over Wi-Fi it is processed by the receiver vs the Fire Stick and then over HDMI to the AVR.

I went to Fire Sticks a while back to avoid the limitations of tv and bluray player apps. Your FireSticks are hard-wired? I just use wifi with mine. What do you mean "processed", tho? The differences are more likely due to different recordings or signal level differences than anything else....

I should have said my Firesticks are connected to the HDMI port directly but use Wi-Fi for signal.

What I was talking about was that the SQ from using Amazon HD over the Heos app on my phone (what I called Wi-Fi) sounds better than using Amazon Music HD hosted on the firestick. I do definitely agree that the sounds quality and volume is affected greatly by the individual recordings and signal level associated to them whether it be a movie/show or music track.
