Oppo 203 vs current 4k players. Secondary use.

When you'll say the Sony's a good player, which version are you'll referring, too; the 700 or 800 model?

I need a 4k player, but I don't need all the features and price of my Oppo 203. This will be for the Wifey and she's not into all the techy stuff. We just need a really good 4k player that will be played through a LG 4k tv.

Both the 700 and the 800 models are recommended. You can choose on the features which are more appropriate for your needs. I personally own the X800 and an OPPO UDP-203. To tell you frankly, the Sony performs as well as the OPPO with the only difference that it won't play DVD Audio discs.

You are right. It was an oversight on my part to say that the X800 doesn't play DVD-As. As stated above, I actually own a X800 player.

X800 does, but not x700. I have both.

The Sony players are cheaper for the wallet and in my opinion just as good if not better.

I replaced my Oppo 203 with a Panny 820, since the money offered for the Oppo was just too good to pass up. Plus I didn't want to be left with an orphaned machine in a few years. There are a few features on the Oppo that I took for granted and still miss (memorized disc positions, digital zoom for non-anamorphic DVDs, etc.) but for most discs the Panny is more than adequate. I will say that the build quality of the Oppo was most impressive, and I really wish they had stayed in the business.

I love my Oppo 203. I picked one up a year and a half ago at a local flea market for $150. Luckily the seller didnt know what he had. I recently got high speed (4k) internet at my house. The resolution using the 203 is phenomenal. I particularly love it's build quality, features such as resume and SACD and DVD audio capability, upscaling and astounding resolution ability of regular blurays, etc. I watched the Billy Joel Live From Shea Stadium bluray the other night and it was just plain sick. I couldn't believe I was watching a stadium concert. The best part is that last year when Netflix was still affordable and bkuray disc prices began to drop like a rock, I must have picked up 150 classic bluray movies and concerts for no more than $2 apiece. Now I just slip them into the Oppo 203 and get to enjoy them upscale to near 4k resolution. Makes me look like a genius now that Netflix has raised its prices again!
