Hello everyone, my name is Jose and i live in Spain.

I have few old vcr that works properly and need to buy a old AVr with s-video and composite video inputs and hdmi outputs to plug into my new tv that only have hdmi imputs.

I am looking a denon avr 3312ci that i think this can be a good option for me.

I was looking in pioneer and yamaha too, but i believe the denon is the best option. I think this is the last model year (2011) that has s-video imputs and for me is a very importan caracteristic, i have two s-vhs vcr.

I know the denon convert the analog images imput and upscale the images for 1080p output via hdmi so i think this could be a great option.
But maybe pioneer, sony, onkyo or some other brand have a good option, but i am new in this world

Can someone help me and give some recomendation please.

Many thanks

Hello sir, yes i was looking one of this converters, but i need at least 4 and i dont know if can have the same picture and upscalling quality than a proper Av receiver.
I think for the price of 4 of this converters, and a HDMI splitter i can buy the denon or the onkyo and possibly i Will have best upscalling and picture quality.
Maybe i am wrong so for that reason i asked on forum, because i know both denon and onkyo are well known here
Many thanks

As I understand it these are only converters for the physical connection, you would just plug them into the HDMI port of your receiver instead of the s-video or RCA port. I guess that only leaves the question of if the receiver upscales to 1080 from SD HDMI sources, but I don't see why they wouldn't. It's also possible your TV would do a better job at upscaling than the receiver, just depends on the specific hardware.

Thanks, i understand that this tools made the analog conversión into digital, otherwise, if the función os only passtrough to adapt the analog cable to hdmi the Av in HDMI Port cant understand the Signal
Now, i dont believe this tools can be a good conversión from analog Signal yo digital one but maybe i could be wrong

Things to keep in mind: The difference between S-video and composite video is almost non-existent. There is an extremely small difference in image quality between the two, but it is far smaller than what one would expect. I'm not sure how much you are intending to use a technology which hasn't been manufactured for what... a decade? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to invest in old technology over and over and over when we live in a HD world which is surrounded entirely by HDMI. Support for 4K should be a requirement for any purchases made.

If you are entirely determined to walk down this path, then that's up to you, and my post isn't meant to offend, but I've seen a fairly long list of my client's want to integrate old technology into their setups, only to realize that they almost never use that old technology anymore. Not when there are tons of options in the digital world which make it fully accessible at the same, or better quality. Get a video capture device and digitize everything and call it all done. Get new HD digital copies of any movies for next to nothing. It's all possible these days. Obviously, old home movies that need to be transferred are some work, but it really should be backed up into a digital format anyway.
