I want to build up to having a music first home theater in an 18' by 20' room with a vaulted ceiling. My plan is to use the AVI DM 10 active speakers that I already have, as front speakers until I can get proper floorstanding ones in the future; then I could move the DM 10s back as rear speakers. I figure I should start by choosing a center, and I think I want to get a floorstanding one, maybe even the same as I'll eventually get as the front left and right. If I could find some miracle JBL M2 for $5000 I'd splurge for one, otherwise I want to spend less than $4000 per speaker. The other two things I'm considering is the upcoming Vizio OLED and the upcoming Marantz SR 8015. I'd appreciate any and all advice. Thanks

I would hold off the new Marantz until it gets tested and numbers get out. With your budget of $4k or less per speaker you can’t go wrong with really anything in that price range. If your budget is that per speaker I would go with separates. An AVR won’t give sufficient power to a $3k-4K speakers.

I'd think three M2s up front would be great but as you say not likely with your budget. Certainly wouldn't matter as to the avr's amp section, tho :) AVR amp power being sufficient or not for passive speakers would depend on speakers as well as use but I'd settle on speakers first altho I've got no great ideas for ya off the top of my head except perhaps the latest JBL HDI series or maybe the Polk Legends...or something from Salk or RBH perhaps?

I would take a look at the new JBL 3800 recently reviewed by Shady. They measure really well, and they are actually a potent speaker that I think an AVR would power.

They are a very sensible and practical design with superb and exemplary measurements.

I am happy to put these speakers as a top recommendation for audition. We see and get posts on speakers that are totally incompetent designs. They literally just abound everywhere. So it is nice to be able to recommend a speaker that has been well thought out and the design properly implemented.

Shady really liked them. I would be very surprised if they do not sound as good as they measure. They are $5000 per pair.
