Using 2 SNAP AV Episode Element subwoofers in Audyssey XT/Mult EQ

Denon X6500H with 2 sub pre-outs - but Audyssey/MultEQ only recognize one subwoofer for setup.

I have tried each pre-out separately and they work. Did factory restore, reverted to release firmware, soft reset, complete power off for 30 minutes, etc.

Denon told me sub # 2 "mimics" sub 1 - assuming same distance and level. I tried using a Y adapter from one sub pre-out but same results. Subs sound good just bugs me why I can not configre as 2 subs to allow proper distance, level and delay.

Does anyone have any ideas or tips why this is failing? I have talked with both Denon and SNAP A/C at length plus solicited help on another forum.

TIA!

You went into speaker-subwoofer settings and indicated you're using two subs?

Yes both Audyssey setup and manual speaker config.

Maybe try Denon again and elevate the complaint as a warranty issue as the avr should treat the two subs separately for distance/level, that's the advantage of the SubEQ feature in XT32 (which the 6500 has, not just XT). If you told the Denon guy you had XT (like your thread title) he'd be right, tho hopefully he'd ask for the model number and know better. You may have a defective avr.

I'm pretty familiar with XT32, but I don't know what you mean here. Is that a message you got when you were running setup or..?

Distances and level setting don't always match up to the actual measured distances. It's more about timing than it is distance. Are your subs co-located on the same side of the room?

Good point about actual sub locations but if Denon told him that for this unit, it doesn't make sense.

I did and they offered an upgrade to X8500H for $2100. I didn’t accept as for a $4K AVR I would like HDMI 2.1 capability.

If they'd offer that for a more reasonable price that could be an interesting offer. Why do you want HDMI 2.1?

Yes subs on same wall near corners equidistant.
If I set to 2 Subwoofers the software or AVR only lets me complete calibration if I Set it to 1.
Just curious how many Denon or Marantz owners have run into this.

I am replacing subwoofer cable on newest sub matching the left Episode Element 12” SW.

I’d like knowing if it is operator headspace failure or a technical glitch

What do you expect from two same subs in equidistant locations might be something you can expand on. May as well just have XT for that. So what exactly happens when set to two subs when you start Audyssey setup? Step by step....

In a nutshell if I select 2 subwoofers in setup - it takes me to SW Level Match (where one sub is adjustable for ~75db, but the other does nothing if adjusting gain/volume. Switched cables to preouts did the same on other sub.

So basically the only way so far is hooking 2nd sub up as slave (mimics) or using Y-splitter which is what I think internally the Denon pre-outs are doing.

The examples above have been tried using 2 subs in setup, I have to skip SW Level Adjust to finish calibrataion in Audyssey XT32. Does same thing in MultEQ iOS app.

Have 2 new sub cables arriving tommorrow.

In your first screen it says you have set up one subwoofer.....you can't change that to two?

Yep I can change to 2 but then problems with SW Level Match - having to skip it.

Denon told me to configure as one subwoofer (why have 2 pre-outs then?).

Ask Audyssey replied to a question I had:

"It is completely ok to skip the SW Level Match, it has no affect on the actual measurement of the subwoofers.

The level matching is intended to be a quick way to get the subwoofers within the +/-12 dB allowed by the AVRs trims. As long as the trims are within +/-12dB, all the numbers provided by the level matching screen should be ignored.

I will be doing another MultEQ 8 point calibration on Tuesday using mic stand, boom mic adapter and Audyssey ACM1HB tower mic.

Doing another cal to see if subwoofer cable was a culprit - If I have time will redo XT32 calibration also.

What problems? What do you mean "with SW Level Match"? I can't help but shake the feeling you have a misconception somewhere or a little confused on how the distances and level matching works...

What happens when you change it to 2 subwoofers and run setup? What problems occur?

If I select 2 subs I go to sw level match, where one sub can not be adjusted to 75db. Have to skip it to finish a calibration. I understand distance and delay re: subwoofers

Okay, we're getting closer. I still don't understand the problem tho. "One sub can not be adjusted" is not very descriptive. Is it not playing a tone or is it playing a tone but the mic isn't picking it up? Have you tried adjusting the gain on the back of the sub while the tone is playing? Or is it just dead? No tone, no signal or..?

SW Level Match - in trim adjust for levels, 2nd sub does not respond at all to increase of volume on screen, or iOS or Android device on mobile app. (whenever 2 subwoofers are selected in channel select, speaker config or Audyssey setup)

So you can increase the level as shown on screen but the "sub 2" simply doesn't actually change measured level?
