$350-500 on receiver + speakers

Picking up on craigslist right now is not so realistic.
If there is a will, there is a way. If I was selling, I would have a plan to provide the buyer with a means to know what they were getting without compromising health.
I saw where one guy auditioned a pair of speakers. The seller set them up in his garage and the buyer listened from outside the garage door. Obviously, the acoustics were not ideal, but for establishing that they worked and could be played loud without falling apart, it was what he needed. You could wipe down the speakers or receiver with a Lysol wipe.
I have to say that the DCM speakers are a better deal than you are likely to find (unless "you have a horseshoe up your ass"), but you can find some good receivers (especially if you are willing to get a 5 or 7 channel AVR) for around $100-$125.
If the seller is willing to set it up on his front porch to show that both channels work, you can paypal them the money (they should get email confirmation within a minute or so)! Bring a lysol wipe to wipe it down before you grab it, and I think you are as safe as placing an order on-line would be (which seems pretty safe to me). If you are especially concerned, let it sit outside in the sunlight with a breeze for about 5 minutes and any virus that might be inside the receiver would get wafted away before you put it in the car with you!
I kind of suspect, with extra time on their hands, people stuck at home may be getting around to those things they have put off, like going through their stuff and deciding what to sell (and can use the money right now), so it is likely a buyers market.

This is exactly what the seller for my last speaker purchase did. Opened up the garage and had a small amp set up. It was plenty for me to determine if they were functioning properly.

In my opinion on a budget you won't find better deals than can be found on Craigslist. Just need a little patience and know how.

Yep, now that you say it, I remember imagining Sierra 2's as the speaker in that garage!
It was your account that I was referring to, just couldn't place it at the time!

DCM amd MTX are owned by Mitek ... the DCM side has far better speakers with better engineering

As far as the MTX side: they are overall poor sounding and poor quality - the woofer and tweeter do not play well together. -- They are bright, loud, harsh, sharp, edgy, coarse, grainy, and scratchy sounding. Plus, artificial sounding with voices and instruments and the box rings. Even Bose is better than the MTX Monitor 5i speakers.
So the DCM TP160 pair are better speakers vs the DCM MTX which are not as good? Confused because the MTX is twice as expensive as the TP160 so would assume they would be better. I'm down to buy the better speaker for half the price :)

I think the story is probably that the seller got a great deal on a whole bunch of discontinued TP and TFE series speakers at a huge discount. Original retail for those towers is $600/pr and they were not a bad deal at that price.

The DCM speakers are being discontinued, and DCM unloaded the stock and the current seller got a great deal -- and as a result the buyer gets a great deal. ... these type of deals are rare

Sorry still confused because you guys keep mentioning DCM but not TP vs MTX. So the better speakers are the TP160 of the two correct?

TP160 are sold out for over a month now and doubt more will be available. The only option is the tower version. Jump on them fast cause they will sell out. The bass output are great too. I’m so glad I have them was listening to some Bob Marley earlier today while cleaning and wowee the bass. Don’t hesitate on the TP260.

Oh got it the TP160 are the bookshelf versions, the DCM-TP160 CH are the tower and the DCM-MTX are similar but not as good as the TP160CH tower correct?

DCM-TP160 CH $150 for the pair
DCM-MTX $310 for the pair

Which of these two options is the better quality speaker to purchase/.

DCM TP260 tower is the same as the DCM TP160 bookshelf just a tower version. Same drivers no difference. MTX don’t buy.

Okay MTX is out haha, thanks for helping and being patient with me (i'm new to all this for the most part).
DCM TP160-CH
DCM TP260-CH

Will these two options be around in terms of their 'deal' or is one or both a good option to jump on now while they're still available, and between the two which is better?

I linked the ones to get and told you it was the deal of a decade in posts 3 and 7 of this thread.
I understand your skepticism based on the low price, but that is what deal of the decade means!

DCM makes the TP series. MTX is a different, lower quality division of the same company. DCM is the company, TP (Time Piece) is the speaker model.

Get these and be done with it. We will work on the receiver next:

Get this receiver. Great reviews online and I have a similar Yamaha in my 2.0 set and it’s great! I was born and raised in NY and moved a couple years ago to fl. I miss my city.

Phono, Bluetooth, but no WiFi.
Or if you need WiFi for streaming music 50$ more. KEW linked this earlier:
The Yamaha 202 does not have phono inputs, the 303 does.

You are correct KEW. I thought it said it did but only with pre amp phono. Whoops. I edited my reply. Thanks.

Either option should be great! It just comes down to a smaller/cheaper tower vs. a more expensive tower that can dig a little deeper in the bass.

I scored a set of those TP260 from the same seller, replaced a set of Infinity P363 in my living room, and never looked back!

I also scored a couple sets of the bookshelf speakers that had been discussed, a couple in-ceiling speakers, and a L/C/R set of the TFE bookshelf speakers! No regrets, espc at the price, and I'm not even sure what/where I am gonna use those TFE series yet.

Post #10 in this thread really sealed the deal for me. With that kind of praise from DM, and the fact that I own a set of Philharmonitors was the push over the edge that I needed! Performing that DM mod on the bookshelf will make those be very good budget surrounds to match my Phils.
