Odd large room assistance :-S

It should be an easy improvement to my listening experience. My computer speakers while THX certified have a range of 33 Hz - 20 kHz Signal to noise ratio: >93.5 dB with sub RMS 165 watts at 8ohms with 5 67 watt satellites and actually sounds good. It's great for the office where each speaker is about 4 feet away.

The large room on the other hand has just has a crappy shelf unit from Samsung with Signal to noise ratio >55db, 600 W/CH (4 Ω/100 Hz) per the users manual and sounds flat comparatively with no real sound stage separation at all.

Will see where my budget takes me but now I get to choose between the VTF2-MK5 and the VTF-3 So many choices and so hard when all you can do is go off others opinions. I do love the knowledge you have been presenting. I always knew this room would be a challenge at best but this information helps alot.

I have also started looking at amps for the future and was looking at the Marantz MM7705. I think thi should help when I get to the 5.2 setup especially as long as I can keep the subs powered.

Many of us (including myself) were in the same boast as you're in now...That's why you come here....to gain some knowledge to help you make an educated decision.

VTF2 or VTF3...I'm biased towards the 15" especially with all that ceiling height you have.

So much knowledge so little time. I am hoping some day I will be able to listen to music I created on my own high end system. I have been slowly teaching myself some music production software and have been failing at teaching myself piano... I guess you can't teach an old dog too many new ticks lol. At least with forums like this I will be able to have great sounding music from others.

I haven't read all the posts, but "so little time"...what's the rush?

I don't have any musical talent and never really attempted any instrument seriously...at one time my wife wanted a baby grand piano and I told her...only if you're going to pick up piano...lol

Golf and grilling/smoking are my other hobbies...pretty content with great sounding music from others...

No major rush. Just getting older and wish I had more time between work and projects around the new house. I do enjoy a good whiskey every once in a while but main hobbies are singing and music in general and fishing when I can squeeze it in .

Beautiful place.

In the last 3 yrs I've from little to no hard liquor to being a regular Tequila sipper. It amazes people that only remember the salt, lime and shoot days of tequila...Bourbon and scotch I keep in the LQ cabinet, and I will have a drink with you, but they mostly go untouched.

I usually drink Scotch when I do drink. On a heavy night I would say 3 drams is about all I have. I don't drink often. Maybe a dram (sipped neat) every couple of weeks after a hard day at work. I do have a small stock of about 6 different types of liquor for entertaining the guests though.

I have Glenmoarangie 10, Famous Grouse, Johnie Walker Black and Monkey shoulder currently. Last gathering killed the Macallan 12 and Balvenie Doublewood 12. I really like Aberlour anything and need to get some more.

Macallan...sir...my intro to scotch, golf buddy treated me to a glass of Mccallan 25...I had no clue what I was drinking but it was the smoothest neat drink I've had to date.

He said he bought it duty free in Jamaica for fraction of the price I would see here...I almost crapped by pants when I saw the price online.

For me it's neat or maybe 1 ice cube.

Glenfarlcas 12 is affordable and smooth....the Glenmorangie 18 is more in line with the Macallan 25, really smooth, very little alcohol burn...fit for a decanter imo.

Haven't been lucky enough to indulge in that. Haven't really had anything about $150 for a 750ml. I do have to admit one of the easiest drams was Dalmore. Not necessarily my favorite but I do enjoy it. depending on my mood it's usually the Aberlour 16 or Abunadh. If you like a sherry cask finish I highly recommend these. I can get them for a pretty good price near me and would only warn that the Abunadh is cask strength but is better if you are going to use ice than the 16 which I prefer neat in a Glencairn glass. Aberlour is easily my favorite sherry cask finished scotch.

On a side note I am thinking about pairing the Denon 3600 with the Marantz MM7055 5 channel amp. Would that be a good fit if I was looking to power 5 channels and going with 2 powered subs? Basically using the 3600 for connectivity and processing and the sub for the channel power or would there be a better choice?

I'm a glencarin glass fan! I will look into Aberlour...right now Glenmorangie 18 is the best that's not Macallan25 I've had and I do prefer sherry cask finished scotch.

I enjoy scotch, but this is my go to sipper now...100% pure blue agave...no additives. This is one of the smaller distilleries, estate grown agave, they still use the old school tahoma stone method of getting the juice out...imo on par with some really great sipping whiskeys out there including the Glenmorangie 18. Distribution is growing but still not the easiest tequila to find...750ml/$80 - $100 depending on the store...well worth a bottle.

IMO...using the pre outs on the 3600 is a smart idea. Not so much for SQ, but taking the amp load off the AVR reduces the heat it will generate and over time running cooler could extend the shelf life.

7705...1200 amp...if I were going to spend that much I might look at the monoprice 5x 200 power amp for $100 more.

That said...you could spend about half the price of the 7705 with the Outlaw 5000 power amp.

I do like that AMP from Mono. I was also getting other supplies I will need.
12 gauge wire should work for a 50ft run I believe and getting all the banana plugs I will need as well. Will be measuring twice but thinking I will be needing about 300ft of cable from my initial calculations.
