Hi guys, I am currently setting up a home theatre and would love to know if people could recommend a suitable receiver to run them. Also if they feel I need an external amp also.

I am running:
2 x B&W DM604 S3
1 x B&W LCR600 S3
2 x B&W DM602 S3
2 x B&W ASW675
2 x in ceiling speakers (nothing special but ill keep them at this stage)

I really know nothing about this sort of stuff dos would appreciate any recommendations and would love to know what people would do themselves with these speakers. The room is 4.5m x 6m (14.7 x 19.5 ft)

Thanks in advance.

Check out the Denon, Marantz or Yamaha for AVR. Not sure what you're budget is, but you can snag one of those AVR's for under $1500 and sometimes under $1000. Right now people are really loving the Denon x3600H. Affordable and works great. I would grab and Amp as well. Check out Outlaw or Monoprice. Great amps for the money.

The 3500 is a solid receiver and still plenty current for today. Plus it has a full set of preouts should you decide to add a separate amp down the road.

Personally, for 7.1.2 AVR, I would go with Yamaha RX-A2080 or A3080, but any of the usual suspects should do - Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Anthem.

I just sold a Denon X8500 to a client. I actually recommended to him the Yamaha, but he's gotta have something more expensive. :D

Will I likely need a seperate amp to power these speakers? What sort of difference will it make? (If any?)

If you just used that AVR for all of your speakers you'd probably only get about 40 watts a speakers. I would suggest getting a separate amp. I'm going to guess those B&W's are 4ohm speakers? I would suggest looking at Monoprice 9 channel amp. It's $2k, and your front 3 will get about 300watts while all your sides and surrounds will get over 100 watts per channel. You will definitely notice a difference compared to just using that AVR. At louder levels that's for sure.

You may be right, but it depends a lot on how far he sits from the speakers and the spl he needs. For example, if he sits 10 ft or less from the LCR and is good with 75 dB average like a lot of people do then he will be fine with a mid range AVR. Adding a 200 WPC amp will only give you 3 dB more and that's the recommended maximum by B&W anyway.

The nice thing about a decent quality AVR with pre-outs is that you CAN still se it to power the surrounds!
Iirc, the B&Ws up front will likely benefit from extra current. A good amp for the mains at least could rightly be considered. Perhaps 3-channel to include the Center.
