Proper configuration for Dolby Atmos

Hi guys,

Im trying to figure out how I should connect all the devices to have the perfect sound for my setup. That means that Dolby Atmos should also be working but I have my doubt whether I connected everything as I should.

TV: Samsung QE65Q9FNA
Receiver: Onkyo HT-R693 with the S7705 speakers
Other Equipment:
- Nvidia Shield
- Sony Playstation
-Nintendo Switch

Setup
The TV is connected to the One Connect Box
All the devices are connected directly to the One Connect box and not to the AV-Receiver.

HDMI 1 Nintendo Switch
HDMI 2 Playstation 4
HDMI 3 Nvidia Shield
HDMI 4 HT-R693 (AV Receiver)
HDMI 4 is connected to the Main Out ARC HDMI port of the AV Receiver.

TV Settings
HDMI Input Audio Format = Bitstream
Digital Output Audio Format = Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital+

Settings Receiver
Height Speakers Type = Dolby Enabled Speaker (Front). Im not sure about this setting
There are other options I can choose like
-Bundles Dolby Enabled Speaker
-Speaker front etc

Audio Selector is set to ARC, other option is HDMI
HDMI CEC (RHID) = ON
HDMI Through = Auto

I dont use the apps like Netflix, Kodi, Disneychannel that are installed on the TV. I only use the apps installed on the Nvidia Shield.
Any recommendation regarding my setup? Im just wondering if everything is connected as it should. Should there be a Atmos logo being displayed on the AV receiver when using Atmos media? I never saw it.

Just one more small question. I have the Audio configuration on the PS4 set to Bitstream - Dolby DTS. Is that the right option?

Thanks in advance!

Hook the devices into the receiver and connect the receiver to the one box from the receiver's OUT MAIN/ARC port. Dolby Atmos from the devices will not pass to the receiver from the TV.

Hi Trebdp83

Thanks for your reply! Well I just tried what you said, but when I do that no sound comes out of the Height speakers. While in the configuration I mentioned above, I hear sound. But maybe it not the sound it should be? Is there any way to check if the receiver is transmitting Atmos or not? Im not sure if using Atmos the height speakers should always transmit sound or just in particular situations.

Thanks again!

Only material coded with atmos will play back sounds. Even then it's not a lot. They're there for effects when stuff happens overhead. Think about how often that really is.

Did you run a setup? I'm not that familiar with Onkyo but I assume it comes with a mic and at least a basic setup.

Go into your setup menu and make sure you have the speakers assigned to a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup and not a 7.1 setup. Stream something you know to have a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. While playing it, press the display button on the Onkyo remote control until the display on the unit changes. It will display the codec being played. It should say Dolby Atmos if it is working properly.

And, like Pogre mentioned, run an initial setup if you have the mic.

Seriously, I have no life.
And, also run the calibration part of the setup so the speakers are leveled wrt sound level.
