How to reroute the main front L/R internal amplifiers in an AVR

Hi there and a Happy New Year for everybody!

First of all, I`m sorry for my bad English for the reason it`s not my native language :) ...

So ... in the near future, I`ll purchase a Denon AVR-X4500H in order to have a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup.
Here at this site, I`ve read an article about how to do the above setup on the X3600H model and the author said it`s best to reroute the front L/R channels via and external amplifier.
Now I have two questions:
1. Could I do the same front channels reroute on the X4500?
2. Could I use my old Denon AVR-X2000 model from 2014 as an external amplifier or I must purchase one from another brand, just not ending with the same commands on both AVR`s when I operate the remote control? ... In case I need another external amplifier could you please recommend some models bearing in mind I have a 215 square feet room?

I wish you could understand what I was trying to say and hope you are keeping the good work you are doing!

Best regards,
A.

1. Yes

2. Yes, if you use it as a two channel amp but it would be a clumsy way of doing it and you have to be very careful doing all the right things. Not recommended..

I'm not sure why you would require extra amplification. The AVRX4500H has plenty of power by itself. Why don't you try it by itself first and then see if you need anything else?

The 4500 has processing for 7.1.4(11ch) but only has 9 amps.

Thank you guys for your answers.
What I don`t understand is those two front channels after rerouting will be controlled by the AVR or by the external amp?

So, there is nothing you really need to do here. You will connect RCA cables from the preout connections of the 4500 to your amplifier. The reason to do this is that it will take a lot of load off of the AV receiver and put it on a very high quality amplifier which is designed specifically for the task of amplification. So, both products should last longer and run cooler and offer more robust power when setup this way.

The volume of the front speakers is controlled by the 4500 raising and lowering the power output on the RCA jacks to your outboard amplifier, so using your normal volume up/down/mute control will take care of everything! Super, super, super easy!!!

The back of the 4500 for those keeping up...

I thank you BMXTRIX!

1. So if AVR is in full control, how should I set up the volume level, bass and so on on the external power amp?

2. Could you recommend me an external power amp around 500$, bearing in mind I have a small ~215 square feet room and living in Europe?

3. Just right now I have a simple 5.1 setup but I intend to build a 7.1.4 Atmos system.

My actual system is based on the modest HECO speakers from Germany:
- two 3-way floor standing speakers - VICTA PRIME 702: https://www.heco-audio.de/en/speaker/victa-prime/victa-prime/victa-prime-702,
- one 2-way centre speaker - VICTA PRIME CENTER 102: https://www.heco-audio.de/en/speaker/victa-prime/victa-prime/victa-prime-center-102 and
- two 2-way shelf speakers - VICTA PRIME 202: https://www.heco-audio.de/en/speaker/victa-prime/victa-prime/victa-prime-202.

Could you recommend me another budget speaker system (something like RSL CG5 & CG25) in order to build my 7.1.4 Atmos system but most important: that could be purchased here in Europe?

Thanx in advance!

External power amps generally have no volume/level/bass-treble (they may have a gain control to help match to your avr's pre-out level best).....integrated amps do have all those things but they generally aren't used as power amps (unless you're just trying to put a unit you have to work). I can't help you with what's available in Europe particularly, I have no idea but some members from europe hang out. I've used pro amps for various audio purposes, and they tend to be well priced and have handier features than some consumer amps....might look at a Crown XLS1002, or for a bit better spec, the 1502 and up.

How about 4 pieces of Dayton Audio MK402 acting like height speakers?
I could hang them on the ceiling with the help of a dedicated metal rod in order to get appropriate hight level and angle sound dispersion ...

How do you rate Behringer KM750 compared to Crown XLS 1502 ... if you could do it ...

You could use various speakers like that I'd think, as long as you can rig them.

Not familiar with the KM750 model, but that looks like it would do the job as well, keep in mind Behringer wattage spec tends to be a bit inflated, and there could be fan noise that could be an issue if the amp is in your listening space (the Crown XLS 1502 has very quiet fans). I note this Behringer does have rca inputs, whereas some Behringers I've seen in the past don't.

One caution on a pro amp vs consumer amp may be a way to turn it on/off automatically. The Crown XLS amps do have a trigger circuit but it's not the usual consumer type, but you can easily make one. I don't have any trigger on my older XLS 1500, I use a smart power strip keyed to my avr to turn it on/off.

1. Which speakers should I choose between Dayton Audio MK402 and SVS Prime Satellite?
2. Same question regarding the external amp: Crown XLS 1500 or Emotiva BasX A-150 ...
3. Which solution is the better one: ceiling speakers or over the top speaker, something like SVS Prime Elevation? Had the former is the answer which one could you recommend bearing in mind the price level from the above question 1...

Thanx in advance!

You started by asking if you can use your existing av receiver as power amp, then switched to power amp, so are you going to use power amp for sure? That is the right thing to do to keep things simple, but before I would recommend something specific I would like to know the following:

1. How far will be be sitting from the speakers, that is, front L/R, center, surround left/right, read left/right, and the Atmos front/rear?

2. Do you want to listen to loud level like what you would hear in the movie cinema?

3. Do you intend to mount the 4 Atmos speakers on the ceiling, or you will go for the Atmos enabled speakers?

You said you wanted to go for 7.1.4, that means you need to add two surround rear speakers and either 4 Atmos ceiling mount speakers or the Atmos enabled type that direct the sound upwards where it reflects off the ceiling to create the overhead effect. So without first answering the above questions, I don't think we can make informed recommendations.

1. About 12 feet from front L/R and center, 2 feet from surround L/R and rear L/R and regarding Atmos I would like what`s the better solution in my case ...

2. No, just for a regular movie watching in a living room of a normal flat ...

3. I wanna place 4 speakers like in the below picture, although not sure which position is better: wall mounting high up (btw. what`s the high point of mounting?) or horizontal upfiring (over the front towers) for ceiling bounced audio?

About Atmos speakers, how do you rate these speakers? https://www.dali-speakers.com/loudspeakers/alteco/alteco-c-1/

1. No experience with either speaker. Both would be hard to find examples to audition so you might peruse specs/measurements/reviews.... SVS has a deal where you can test in your home risk free.
2. You're looking at a used Crown? XLS 1502 is the current model (same amp section, tho the new gen 2 has some differences). I'd take the Crown personally, far more powerful and a better value IMO.
3. Haven't gone that way myself but plan do it with in-ceiling speakers (and I'd do 4)...which exact speaker haven't even researched.

Those are multi purpose speakers so you can try both height and Atmos, though for Atmos you will be using the reflective/ceiling bounce feature.

You can probably just grab a low price 2 channel amp such as the Crown, or 2 to 3 Outlaw mono block m2200s.
