Question about the jbl 305p mkii speakers

So I have a question about the jbl 305p mkii speakers. Do they consume a lot of electricity? i am worried that if I turn them on, they will blow out my home electrical systems (is that what it is? ) because they use too much electricity, and my home is old.

No, they don't. General use you're probably only pulling a handful of watts, even at full power it's not significant compared to other household appliances. Where did you get that idea?

I would immediately like to poke fun, but, I've been in some peoples homes where the electrical system was indeed perilous and in need of some help.

If you're talking about these 5" JBLs, they are no more dangerous to most circuits than a nice big lamp.

That's what we're talking about. I do have a pair of 305s by the way, and always use them together. What is your situation, why are you so worried about this? Where do you live?

That is why i am concerned.

I applaud your caution and interest in not causing your home any harm. I think being careful about such things is admirable. I would be cautious and not wish to offer anything that would be considered electrical safety advice.
But, if you are concerned, before you fire up your pair of speakers, ask your brother to turn off his PS4. That will lighten the load on your house and give you some headroom. WHen all goes well, then have him turn his PS4 back on and see how it goes. Circuit breakers should give you adequate protection if any one line has too many devices on it. Try that experiment out and see how it goes.

The most common heavy hitters (in no special order) in a house are:
1) Hair dryers
2) Electric space heater
3) Microwave
4) Window AC
5) Vacuum Cleaner
6) Power tools like compressor, table saw, or router.

My point is if your house can handle any of these items (or combinations thereof), then a pair of these speakers is a comparatively easy load! Don't add the speakers to these in case you are close to maxing out the electrical system!

Do you have circuit breakers or screw-in fuses or something different in your panel/box?

You'd also need to drive these speakers to near max level to have an appreciable draw over a large lamp....

I see. I ask because i've used headphones to listen to music on youtube, and I did notice things in the songs i listen to that you wouldn't hear on cheap speakers. i assumed that maybe speakers would make youtube sound even better than the headphones

EDIT: I assumed that the headphones i use would help me hear things that cheaper speakers wouldn't pick up. I could be wrong.

The JBLs are fairly accurate so you shouldn't miss anything. Some headphones aren't as good as others, too, just like speakers. Usually the biggest determinant is the quality of the recording in the first place.

So is it worth it then to buy the jbl 305p mkii speakers to listen to music on youtube? That is the main reason i'm buying them, so the music sounds great.

I ask if the jbl 305p mkii speakers are worth buying for listening to youtube because i listen to all my music there. I don't want to buy them and find out that cheaper speakers would have done the job for less money.

I doubt you'd find a better active speaker for that money....but that doesn't mean this speaker would be your best choice necessarily. I don't use youtube for music tho, prefer Spotify and Pandora for streaming services, or just my own ripped files. Speakers are subjective, hard to know over the internet what you'd like....
