AVR / using stereo receiver for fronts

Hello,
I have a Yamaha RXV1083 a/v receiver running Klipsch RF82ii fronts (all speakers are Klipsch for Dobly Atmos) for my movies, games, tv but find listening to my music on my old Harmon Kardon avr 20ii in 2.1 sounds better.
Basically what Im getting at here is Im considering buying a Yamaha AS1100 and using it as an amp for the fronts using the RXV1083 preamp and being able to switch between the two using the selector dial on the AS1100 for 2.1 mode and back to surround mode on the RXV1083.
Tried this on the Harmon Kardon but doesnt have enough juice to use in surround as it puts out only 60wpc.
Is this something to consider or just get a power amp for the fronts?
Want the best of both worlds and love the look of the AS1100.
Any thoughts, Im open to suggestions.

How is buying a Yamaha integrated amp related to your preference of using the HK avr?

I was just testing it using the preamp to the HK for fronts but the Harmon didnt sound as good in surround and just reading about it sparked the idea. Although the AS1100 would most likely sound better in that setup.

What are you basing this increased sound quality on, tho? Why not just use the Yamaha avr?

Honestly Im just trying to convince myself to buy the AS1100 I just love the look of the meters in an amazing stereo receiver that can be used as an amp / stereo receiver.
Although I do find the sound HK in stereo sounds better than the Yamaha. Just more alive.

Well, you can't use that integrated amp as a receiver since it has no tuner/internet to qualify :) I'd get better speakers rather than pay that much for an integrated amp....but good luck with that!

Some years ago my sister had a HK AVR and it colored the sound somewhat so sounded a bit extra full and fun. Might it be the processor/pre-amp sound you like and not the power amp sections?

You can get a power amp that has meters if that's the reason.
