We are finishing our basement in a few months and while it won’t have a true enclosed theater, one end of the room will be dedicated for tv and listening to music. I have a pair of goldenear triton 1 in my upstairs living room which I absolutely love but don’t plan on moving them to the basement. My budget is ~8k for everything(tv, speakers, electronics, install cost etc). Room size is 40x20 so big rectangle with the tv area on one end. The guy who is doing the work says 8k should build a nice “entry level” theater but don’t expect the sound quality I have with my triton 1(who would’ve thought 8k was entry level). TV and receiver are pretty easy but what speakers would you folks recommend I look at? Would a high end Soundbar and sub be a better choice? I’d say the usage with be 50/50 movies and music.

Unfortunately yes. Thinking tv rather than projector. Could maybe bump the budget to 10k if absolutely necessary.

You can get there for 8k or less. Are you wanting dolby atmos?

If the ceiling is low, you might not want to. Last question are you wanting any of these to be inwall and or in ceiling?

I’m open to whatever gives me the best sound. Installer mentioned floorstanders for fronts hidden behind a false wall with in ceiling for rears but also mentioned in walls for fronts and center channel.

If you are not doing anything special to your room such as putting in home automation stuff, and you are an able-bodied adult, why do you need an installer? That is a lot of money that could go into make your system much better. It's easy to hook all of this stuff up.

I would plan on it, wire for it that is cheap at this stage and when more funds are available install. Avoid a remodeling headache later. Plan for max and do now what you can; wire is cheap, remodel gets expensive.

You're welcome. Those are just an example of what you can do and a really good option, especially with the Harman JBL sale on the 590s. SQ is excellent, with great dynamic range.

50/50 usage.

Don't rule it out at this stage because the cost to prep for it is minimal. With a 10' ceiling I would prewire for 4 in ceiling speakers at the very least.

IMO 5.1 (preferably 5.2) done well is really good...but Atmos does enhance the home theater experience.

80"+ TV...entry level $1800 to $2000...Premium...too much for this budget

FWIW...I've heard the GoldenEar Triton One series...are nice speakers. Speakers are a little subjective, but there's a lot of knowledge here...off hand...the SVS Ultra towers sound like a starting point

Thanks. I’ve wondered about the ultra towers. My neighbor has their subs paired with ascent Sierra towers and it sounds fantastic but I’ve never heard their speakers.

So you would use a third tower as the center in this case?

Definitely or the bookshelf version if no front projector. 3 identical across the front is ideal for a "theater setup"

Agreed. @danzilla has the 590’s and 580’s as does @lovinthehd.

And as you mentioned earlier the op should absolutely wire for Atmos. 10’ ceilings are perfect. And Ime and imo its absolutely worth it. Not to mention the “what if”. Lol
