So, how many of you are actually running your receiver eq

I just wanted to know if people were actually running their EQ be it YPAO, audyssey, or whatever it may be or are you just running it through with no eq settings. Just figured I ask because every time I run my YAPO, I get a different response, or sound, from my yamaha. I Usually get a better speaker response running it on through, although sometime YPAO did work and worked great, but I just don't feel like running it again and getting and and satisfactory result so might as well just leave it on through.
Thoughts?

I currently use the Through setting on my 2016 RXA2060 Yamaha. I’m used to the manual setup coming from a 2003 RXV3300 Yamaha previously.

I run the auto setup for distances and levels but i turn off Audyssey afterwards. I have tried using Audyssey a few times but i always end up turning it off, it just makes my head tired after a while. This is probably just me being so used to the sound in my livingroom and using room correction changes things so my brain has to work hard unexpectedly to compensate. This is for movies/tv. For music audyssey just doesnt work for me, it takes away a lot. My room might be a bit too dead for many peoples taste but im very sensitive to bright rooms.

For the record, we should probably add which version of Audyssey is being discussed. And also if you tried using it with the app to limit the range it influenced. That may not be an option if it is an older AVR.

Originally tried on older audyssey version with the marantz av7005 then tried on new better version with and without app range limit on the av8805.

After setting my speaker distances levels and bass management crossover I went into my Processor source setups and applied THX cinema processing to any DD or DTS content. For 2 ch audio material like say CD etc. I change it to THX music which omits the centre channel.

I leave all gains at flat and apply no additional EQ.

After trying all those again recently, I ended up back at the Through setting.

The natural setting actually had a tone that reminded me of my old RXV3300 though. I had that setting for a couple months.

In some rooms, Audyssey may try enforce flat up to 15-20 kHz, the ref curve is less heavy handed but not by much. With the App you can fix that part easily. XT32 definitely is very good in levelling peaks in the 20 to 120 hz range but some people may prefer to have those peaks.

Not necessarily an older AVR. For example, take the Marantz SR50xx series which are in the mid-price category. There are new models being released every year that don't have the Audyssey XT32 EQ feature with the "must have" optional app.
CORRECTION: Starting from the release of the SR5011, this series will work with the optional app and they only have the MultiEQ/XT feature.

It was the reference curve i preferred and audyssey measure better vs off with REW and umik1 but right now off is the way to go for me. If i move or do drastic changes to the room then i will give audyssey a try again, or if i just feel like it lol. Too bad there wasnt the xt32 version when i first got a marantz pre-pro, it is a lot better then the old version.

I may be misreading a bit, but the Audyssey app is available for more than just XT32 equipped models. Better just to be specific about what version....basic MultEQ, MultEQ XT or MultEQ XT32 (and not the metallic nomenclature Marantz used ).

You're right. For example, with the release of the SR5011 and later models, which only have the Audyssey MultiEQ/XT feature, the optional Editor App can also be used. Also, some NR series models will work with it.
I have the SR5010 model. That's a real bummer!

I'm a fan of eq. Or at least MultEQ XT32. It did a great job of taming the peaks that were muddying things up. I'm using a MINIDSP 2x4 HD on top to dial in a couple of dips from 120 hz and down.

I thought you had gotten the Editor App and you wouldn't then need to use the MiniDSP product to smooth the low frequencies.

I got it, but tbh have barely done anything with it. One of these days I plan to set a day aside and really dig in. I want to see if I can make some adjustments for my towers at full range and try to take out a couple of nasty nulls. I'm able to eq them out with the mini on my subs but then I have to set a much higher crossover than I want to.

But yeah, I have yet to roll my sleeves up and get dirty with it...

I did just enough to confirm the inconsistencies I observed before were gone, and they were. I'm taking that along with some others' successes to be a good sign.

I really do need to bust out the Umik and rew and see what the app can do.

Yeah my newest Denon isnt new enough to use the editor app, oh well. Too bad they didn't/wouldn't/couldn't make it available for older units via firmware update....
