New Set Up. Total Newbie

Am trying to set up a new tv room surround sound but I have no idea what I am doing.

I have renovated the room with the intention of two rear speakers built into the coving at the back. Possibly polk rc60i speakers. As they are £110 forthe pair.

I had assumed that I would just connect these up to a sound bar under the tv but I have been told it’s not that simple.

so I have a nice LG oled TV. And as you can see from the pictures. I have coving to run wires round the coving. I have potential space in that unpainted area to put a subwoofer which will be a cupboard.

I also have space in the next roomwhere I plan to put the sky box as I’m trying to keep things minimal in the tv room.

do I need an amp. Can I put this into the next room. Can I use a sound bar that I can plug in. Do I need a subwoofer.
I’m looking for a fairly low cost good value system. It’s a small room and it’s only for a tv. Not playing music and it won’t be loud as kids rooms above.

Any advice would be great. I’m sorry if I’m a bit naive about this.

having read another article. It mentions about an active sound bar. Is it worth getting one of these that can connect to the Polk rear speakers? Then no need for amp.

Yeah, you can't just connect some random speakers to serve as surrounds for a soundbar. Soundbars with surround sound usually come with their own surround speakers and won't work with others. Sounds to me like your purposes would be well served with just a sound bar or a very simple 2.1 or 3.1 channel system. There is no point in setting up surround speakers when the front is going to be heavily compromised. I would look at getting a cheap AVR, some cheap but decent bookshelf speakers, and a small subwoofer.

Surround speakers are for placement to the sides rather than the rear, too (see this). I'd think a decent soundbar with sub and satellite surrounds would do well for you and keep with your minimalist idea.....not sure how a cable box in another room will work....does it use radio frequencies for its remote?

A very minimalistic room is often very bad for quality sound, including just talking in the room, so no need to go too expensive. A decent soundbar with or without surrounds should fit your needs well.

Thanks for the advice. So I planned to put the rear speakers in the back corners of the room.
But the front speakers wouldn’t be. There simply isn’t space to put them outside the tv area.
So is it possible to use an active sound bar or is that not a good idea.
What are satellite surrounds?
The room doesn’t have much in it. But the sofa takes up half the room and it’s only 4x4 metres.
So might be best to stick with just a sound bar? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Satellite surrounds are usually (much)smaller then normal bookshelf size and usually needs a very high crossover. Common in surround sound bar and home theater in a box setups.
