Is it worth chasing for $500.00 ?????? I have B&W Bookshelf and a sub in my master bedroom.

Speakers are subjective. You may like them better than the Klipsch, the B&Ws I've heard I wasn't impressed with (nor am I much of a fan of most Klipsch speakers altho I'd like to check out their latest RP series). I do have an RW12d sub, tho, and definitely better than that out there fwiw. The demands on an amp will be different, tho. Sounds like a decent price from the little I know about them, tho.

Keep in mind the speaker wattage ratings are pretty much meaningless, more important to focus on their sensitivity and impedance spec when it comes to amp choice.

Well taken care of speakers last a very long time. If they have foam surrounds on the drivers those can be a potential maintenance issue (but often can be re-foamed easily enough). Will he let you set those speakers up in your home for a good solid test in the environment you'll use them in?

That is what I am thinking. Thus the x6500h then add power in the future. I had the Marantz 7012 and loved it till I had a problem with it and after 3 months of waiting for the repair I jumped ship.

The Center channel is the Ref lV RC52 8 ohm 125watts max, the surrounds are Ref lV RF42 8 ohm 75 watts max (4 each) the towers are the Ref lV RF82 8 ohm 150 watts max, the Sub is the RW 12d.

To complicate things.............my neighbor just said he would sell me his B&W's CC6 S2 center, DM 602's with stands 2 ea, DM 602 with out stands 2 ea, and DM 603's towers 2 ea for $500.00 they are older speakers so I have no idea if it is worth getting them.

He's suggesting going with the cheaper avr (4500) if you think you may end up getting more amplification.

I don't get too excited about B&W's offerings until you get into the much more expensive tiers. If they're typical of the series I think you'd find them lacking compared to your Klipsch speakers.

I have never heard Klipsch speakers described as being not bright or similar to B&W speakers. Klipsch have a reputation for being on the bright side with their horn tweeters.

Well, it depends. If you're planning to add an amp down the road then yes, saving a little on the avr makes sense. If you don't plan to get a separate amp then maybe you'll want the 6500, tho its not a big jump.

I'd still install the B&Ws in your own setup and see if you think they're an improvement or not....you're retired, you have plenty of time on your hands now Yes, we are glad to spend all your money for you....or even keep it within budget

Yes, this right here. If you can set them up and demo, even just a stereo pair I think would be the best way to go. IME B&W can be very hit or miss. I've been both blown away and underwhelmed depending on the series.

Well he isn't a buddy he is a neighbor from 3 block down the road. A friend of a friend put us together. Soooooo I have to try them at his house if want them. For me the real question is really are they worth the $500.00 ?

The rooms can make a big difference so auditioning in another setup/room is of limited value....sounds like he's still using them rather than having already changed out to different ones (which was the scenario I imagined).

If I read your post correctly that's $500 for 4 DM 602s, 2 DM 603s and matching center? I'd say that's pretty good for the money but if you don't like the way they sound then...
