Hello:
Drawing up plans for new home.
Planning dedicated theater.
Want big screen 180 - 200 inch neighborhood.

Need help with room dimensions.
Planning on room about 10H x 16W x 24L.

Room big enough for 200 inch screen?
Would like to build a room in a room.
How large a space do I need for shell?


Also and designer recommendations. Need help drawing this up.

The kind of projectors that can produce decent light levels in that kind of screen size is going to be quite expensive. You are going to need to consult a professional home theater designer if you are actually interested in good sound and video quality. For your sake, I hope you are rich.

However my post was intended to acquire opinions on room dimensions, total space needed for such a room and suggestions on said professional help.

Could you elaborate what you mean by a room within a room you mean part of it is the home theater part of it's something else for that room size your going to need all the space you can get just for that screen size. How many rows of seats are you planning your going to have to be sitting back a ways to be able to view that monster of a screen better

Do you have any home theater installation companies in your areas. Personally for that screen size that room may need to be a bit bigger but it depends on your plans . 7.1 or 5.1 systems or a full atmos setup like 7.2.4 per say
Do you have any idea on speakers?
One advantage you do have is that your be having an installer come in to do the work and design as you build the house much better and easier in my book my theater I had to remodel the room already preexisting been a real pain in the butt

For a screen that size Id consult proffesional theater installers in your area. They'll help you build the room size that will need to go around it and help you with drawing up and designing the room

I’ve seen a few theaters here with no insulation or soundproofing but crazy expensive gear. I may have my builder build from plans if I can find a designer that’s highly recommended.

So my idea is big room with ability to accommodate large screen. Build room with clips, floating ceiling ect to isolate room. House is not built so I can make a large room.

I have Seaton sound speakers and subs. They are legit if you are not familiar. Have 3 mains and two subs. Plan to do another submersive or 2 and get his new surrounds for Atmos.

I’ve read a few threads of folks with 200 inch screens. Appears to be doable. I will have a designer , but it would be nice to hear from folks with big rooms and screens and their thoughts.

Wow Seaton incredible subs my friend congrats my room just to compare is close to being done and just to give you an idea of scale I'll put a pic in. The room is 18 wide by 24 long by 9 high. I need 2 rows of seats for family so there's no way I can fit that screen size in there.

Hopefully some members with bigger screen can chip in.

Yeah it's HARD to find good installers do your research get bids and get references from there past work. You may need to outsource from out of town of your town doesn't have a legit theater installer it's a bit more expensive but you only get one chance to do this right is the way I'm looking at it.

Here's a pic of my room to give you an idea of scale like I said for me with 2 rows it's just not big enough to do that big I'd love to be able too though

You should consider a 7.2.4 Atmos setup and at least prewire for it. Conduit for signal wire to projector, a way to have remote control signal passed to equipment room.
Yes, some installers like expensive gear.
If fixed screen, may want a nice theater curtain.
If you are concerned or if there is a concern for sound leaks to the rest of the house, now is the time to think about it and design for it.

Wow! My front wall is 16’ wide and according to my measurement a 200” screen would basically take the entire wall. My seating distance is at 16’, and room is 24’ long. I can not imagine watching on a screen that big. I think 150” would be it. For me anyway.
I also have a studio in my house that’s built with acoustic Sheetrock channel, and fiberglass batting in the cavity. Doesn’t seem like it does very much, especially drums. So I think you’re room in a room is a good idea if you’re concerned with leaking sound. The staggered stud concept seems to work well and not intrude into the space much. Also, seaton sound is a great investment. Mark is a brainiac and a super nice guy.
Also agree, 7.2.4 or 7.4.4 would be a great investment. If you’re budgeting high enough, and doing multiple rows, 7.4.6 might be worth considering too. The added height speakers can help with more seamless playback although processors are very expensive, and 4 top speakers can create really good phantom imaging and smooth pans too. If they have wide dispersion. FWIW my space is a LR setup and is 7.3.4. Imo, it’s worth it. Even on legacy tracks, DSU and dtsNX can create awesome experiences. Hope that offers something.

Just to give an idea. This is the front of my room(not quite finished). That’s a 58” plasma on the wall(waiting to die and be replaced with an 80” Oled). To me, a 200”er would be just too big. Acoustically you don’t want to sit against the back wall, so you won’t be at 24’ distance. This is just my opinion however. Just thought I’d try to give an idea of scale.

Just depends you'll see a lot of personal preferences here. The emotivas are getting a great rep on there processors for audio quality. Been a lot of feedback on them though getting the updates right and getting some bugs worked out. By the time you'll have this built though hopefully that will all be cleared up.

I'm leaning towards the monoprice one coming out in the fall quarter made by ATI $4,000 with a really impressive set of specs looks like they are holding out the release date to make sure a lottof kinks are worked out. Hopefully anyway.
ATI is coming out with a new one soon and that one should be excellent as well.

I have an old ATI amplifier still driving my Hearth room. Second Amp I ever purchased. Thing is probably 30 years old and going strong. Bugs are the curse of Emo. I owned the first processor they made.
Other than bugs any significant advantages for the Monoprice product?

Not sure yet the plus is it is made by ATI and they are taking there sweet time releasing it will support Dolby Atmos DTS and Auto 3d.dirac live should already be on board with multi sub correction I do believe. It looks impressive for the price

The wild card is it could have the same bug issues that Emotiva does this will be there first time releasing something like this into the wild.

So it would be one of those that I would wait on until it gets reviewed and it's been out in the wild for a while and customers are reviewing it.

It will be interesting to see how monoprice customer service will work with a product like this especially if it's buggy
