Audyssey just for speaker distances/delay?

Me too. It's a setting I've never tested before either. I've had this receiver for a couple of years now and I'm still learning what all it can do. That's part of the reason I love this hobby so much. There's always something new you can experiment with without even leaving your living room.

*Edit:

Say that 3 times fast!
Lol!

I agree, that's the beauty of this hobby. Always, always learning new things. I'm clearly not a no it all. I come here to learn about things I have no idea about like running Audyssey right.

Question for the Audyssey folks. I don't mean to hijack this thread but it's the most active in this forum.

My surrounds used to consistently come in at 80hz every time I ran Audyssey. Like 30 runs in a row...now no matter what I try, it's either 90hz or 100hz, like the last 10 runs I did while experimenting.

Now, I know you're not supposed to lower the xover from what Audyssey finds, but would it kill anything dropping it from 90 to 80? I'm OCD and want all my speakers to be 80hz...

No, it won't hurt anything. but something changed... Do you know what?

What are your speakers and their rated FR?

I'm a big fan of seting the XO to 1 octave above the lower end of your FR... so if your speaker is rated at 40 Hz, I set my XO at 80. If its 60Hz, I set it at 120. (An octave above is a doubling of the frequency.)
But the most important part is to listen to it!
Try setting your surrounds up as mains for a little. Set the XO and listen to some music to see how it sounds. Adjust it up and down a few times. Is there a particular setting where the bass and treble sound cleaner?

I have a pair of speakers rated at 34Hz that left me struggling between 60 and 80. After a little listening, I heard an improvement in SQ in the way of punchier bass response and more midrange clarity. 80Hz won out!

Experiment and listen! :)

My surrounds are Definitive Technology SR9080, they have 4.5" driver and the manual recommends 80hz (says FR is 40hz, lol, yes right).

I do the 1 octave for the front stage. My towers -3dB point is 32hz, and I've also struggled between 60hz and 80hz (currently at 80hz). SVS recommends 60hz =/

My center was at 40hz so I bumped it to 80 also.

Ceilings is 60hz but bumped it to 80, since 120 might localize my sub since it's near field.

Just the surrounds are bugging me, haha. I want 80 across the board.

Man I popped in the 4k Blu Ray of The Mummy returns yesterday and the sound was absolutely bonkers. I am beyond happy with the results of Audyssey and my home theater in general now. Making my Def Tech's freaking shine. It was so loud and dynamic. Audyssey seemed to really bring out the subtle sounds too, it's not just big sound and the action scenes. Every scene sounds awesome. Very happy to say the least.
