Denon 4400 handling Emotiva T1's and C2

I haven't had any problems, and I'm satisfied with how loud they'll get, but given they drop down to 4 or 5 Ohms, am I risking doing damage to my AVR? I've got a 5.2.2 setup.

Yeah, that's a pretty good avr and should be robust enough to handle it.

Nice:D What would adding an amp do for me? Wouldn't want to drop a ton of money

Then nothing probably. The amps in the 4400 are very decent so getting something substantially better would cost you.

Make sure your denon has a lot of air around it, or active cooling if not.

Give you some pride of ownership, take a little of the load from your avr. It won't really do anything for the sound quality from my experience.

I bought an amp because I just wanted one, lol. I'm very happy with it and have no fear of blowing anything up at excruciating sound levels and my equipment runs nice and cool. Didn't do anything as far as clarity, depth, soundstage or any of the other buzz words a lot of reviewers like to throw around. Like I said, love having one, just know what you're spending your dollars on.

Oh Lord @Pogre I'm right there with you. My rack's looking a little barren and I guess I'm looking for excuses to get more shiny things with pretty lights :D

I'll get back to you soon, friend. Tied up right now. But in general, you should be good. Sometimes the best investment is the free stuff... look at your space, try rearranging a little... maybe you add some padding or good curtains... knick knack shelves or books can help with some diffraction. It isn't all just about the gear.

though the gear is nice. :D

For example, a 300 W rated (into 4 ohms) amp would do reference level for you sitting 11 ft from them with speakers playing simultaneously, assuming you get 3 dB of room gain. It always depend on how far you sit and how loud you need.

I have a really big room and tower speakers with average sensitivity. Plus I'm 14 feet from my front speakers. Sometimes I like to really crank it up. That's the only time I *think* I can detect a difference. Things stay nice and tight at ridiculous volumes more effortlessly... if that makes any sense. That's why I put '*' with think. It could be all in my head. Expectation bias and placebo are for real and I wouldn't put it past me.

Sounds like you need an amp, 300 WPC is probably enough.

Nice way to scratch the itch for a reasonable price for 300wpc is the Crown XLS1502.

Haha! That's the very amp I was looking at:D The XLS1002 says it's 350wpc at 4 ohms, which the resistance the T1'S are rated at. Am I understanding the ratings wrong?

I think we're close to the same distance.

Yeah the 1502s are more like 500wpc at 4 ohm. Slightly better spec on the 1502 for SNR if that means anything to you. I have four 1500s, just thought they'd be a bit more useful than the 1000s at the time and didn't cost a lot more....

I definitely like the SQ my 4400 gives, and the SNR on that is 102dB. It seems logical to me to get a 1502 at 103dB vs a 1002 at 97dB. Do you think I'd notice the difference if I were to go with the 1002? I know it's tough to say as everyone's ears are different, but I'm wondering if 5dB is objectively significant.

Not likely, haven't heard much along those lines (altho if you have really high sensitivity speakers, which it doesn't sound like you have, you might get a bit of audible hiss, that I've seen reported). For the extra $100 I'd just get a little more....

Have you ever done any serious AB level matched comparisons between the XLS and any of your other well build class AB amps? With so many comments on such a very popular class D proamp, I am curious to know if you have any doubt that all else being equal (level matched, same high quality source etc..), there may be audible difference, however minor that may be.

No level matched quick switched double blind test, no. Nor anything to such an extent as I don't think its necessary after the various ways I've used them, as I have generally not done with other amps either. Not set up for such either as I have not felt any need to. I am not an ampliphile.

I've used them as external amps with three avrs with seamless results to my ears, initially replacing Carver M500s. Same for using as power amp with two of my 2ch pre-amps. At least 5 different pairs of speakers. Even used one without a pre-amp. I use three as sub amps at the moment, one is looking for work.

I just find them a great value and sound the same as a variety of other good quality amps....
