Hello all,

I am new to the Audiophile world.
I used to own Magnepan 1.71 and a pre amp with power amp 2x200wats/ch from Rotel.

Now, at 53 I have (I want to believe), turned into cheaper area but nice quality.

I have Polk Audio RTI-A7 Speakers and Yamaha RX-V385 Receiver that I have disabled every function of surround settings and I listen to two channel stereo or PCM.
I hope I qualify to be considered Audiophile, LOL

Being an audiophile means you love sound. Perhaps loving sound just for the sake of hearing?
Sometimes I love hearing the fire truck or ambulance siren as I drive by. ;)
And sometimes I like silence too.
Am I an audiophile?
:p

It's a term skewed by the sellers/reviewers of gear unfortunately. It's not a skill, it's not your gear, or how you choose to use it particularly (it's fine to like surround sound and not just be limited by 2ch).

Audiophiles in general get a pretty bad rap because the most visible and the loudest segment is a bunch of nutcakes that inhabit forums which glorify how much money you spend on gear. Their view of being an audiophile is based on how much money you've already overspent on your gear and how much more money you are gonna dump in to your gear to solve some issue you don't really have. At the AH, we have a term for those types. Audiophools.

This is just my own opinion, but, most people I know don't self identify (at least outwardly) as audiophiles because its like standing up at a social gathering and telling the room you are an "expert" and yes, you really do know more than anybody else in the room. But, in reality, we still are audiophiles because we care about sound.

I don't stand up and call myself an audiophile but I don't mind someone else applying the term to me. Its kinda like praise. Its better if it comes from someone else.

I'd say the fact that you're here is a strong indication... lol.

No special requirements for this club. All you need is a passion for great sounding audio!

Unfortunately that abuse of audiophile is also perpetuated by the crazed pseudo-science claims and tweaks that often accompany that consuming of hi-end gear.

I've been called an audiophile by some of my friends, and I do often have to confirm that I'm just a big fan, but not the crazy end of it.

I love the sound my recycling truck makes as it crushes the recycling, I love the sound the golf ball makes as it hisses of a pure strike, I hate my alarm clock though because I love how my sub sounds in my dream as I rattle my ancestors;)

But hey I’m an audiocriticphile:)

Butchers hate being called butchers. At least the ones that work in supermarkets. They're "meat cutters". "Butchers" are what they consider hacks who hunk and chunk with no refinement. It never bothered me. I worked in a slaughterhouse for years so I was an actual "butcher". Most of those guys don't even know what to do with a large primal. Back home in the sticks where I grew up "butcher" is an honorable profession and "meat cutters were a bunch of sissies... lol.

Yeah, I'm an audiophile too.

Yep, last year around November December was a victim of identity theft. Well long story short. They did a lot of damage. Today my smartphone, I use for online, everything, banking, emails, paying bills and all. I had paired a other cellphone to my Google account that was originally attached to this phone I'm using now. Well, I didn't realize that the other device cell phone smartphone. Had some apps on it that had malware, combining the two with one email account, what I'm saying is compromised my Google account and also my LG smartphone. This phone started acting up about a week and a half to two weeks ago. Needless to say I was pissed. I tried to remove the other cell from the Google account that's attached to this phone. I couldn't. So I reset this cell back to factory settings. and opened a new Google account for this LG phone. Well once I did that not realizing all my passwords are with the old account Google account saved. Anyways I found one game app hiding as a administrator. That app spoofed my emails all of them. I was get over a 100 spams in a day or two. Anyways it sucks!

I just want the best sound I can afford with is not much, but people come to my house and are amazed at how good my rp280fs sound and so am I. Don't know if that makes me an audiophile an don't really care, I know even if I was rich I wouldn't spend 10,000 on a stylus an cartridge for my turntable.

Being passionate and wanting to get more than just the norm is what separates the enthusiasts from the audiophiles, not that audiophiles aren’t enthusiastic they just want more facts to get more performance out of even an inferior set of speakers.

It’s not uncommon to have an audiophile with a cheap pair of speakers in a room that an expensive pair would sound awful! That’s audio awareness to get more from less. The saying is “use the right tool for the job.”

That same saying applies to the correct speaker for the room acoustics, volume, and desired SPL.

So my point an audiophile is looking for the best performance for the least cost and the enthusiasts show off the higher cost even at the cost of poor performance. It’s bragging about the wrong things and in this case sound quality will always trump speaker cost!

Thanks! I got the idea from Andrew, ADTG..he had sent me a text, to my cell, he was about to go to war, with some nasty wasps that infested the corner of his house. He had a hoodie on the hat on top of that plus some type of mask covered his mouth and nose and some sunglasses. He looked like a ninja dude. So I call ADTG, ninja waspsman! Not really but, I can say this Andrew, is a cool pharmacist! Dudes gotta lot of responsibility helping running at hospital he's at. Very knowledgeable guy. He also has two Brothers both are engineers. So I'm thinking he picks his brothers brain sometimes. He has too, with all his post and threads on audio/video gear. Can't say you can call that cheating, having two Brothers that are engineers does have its privileges. The only way I would say he could be cheating is if ADTG, let's one of his brothers use his profile to come smack us up with technical jargon. But that would be smooth huh;)
