Quadraphonic? Four loudspeakers stereo?

I have a room which is a rectangle 5000qf aprox I want to fill it with my music. I have a Marantz SR5013, 7.1. Two of the channels can be used as Zone 2. I was thinking to use it as a 5.1 home theater so I can use Zone 2 channels to put two loudspeakers in the back corners to play music for parties or listen music with a whole surround environment. Can this setting work as quadraphonic or four loudspekers stereo? What would it be the result? By the way, the front speakers are Bronze 5 and the back are Bronze 2. If that is not possible or causes more noice than music, would you recommend to place the four speakers in the front in stereo mode, with my bronze 1 for surround?

Quadraphonic (4.0) hasn't been around for a long time altho some remnants are still available on SACD in multich format.

Your avr has an all-channel stereo mode already, no need for zone 2. Use it if you want, I think it is more suited to parties rather than listening sessions (no need for duplicate channels in a regular listening session of 2.0 content IMO). Such an all-channel stereo mode takes the L/R signal and sends it to the surrounds and rear surrounds in a 7.1 setup (or just surrounds in a 5.1 setup), summing the signal for the center.

I have The Doors “The Singles” set and the Blu-ray Audio disc has a 4.0 mix. “Quadraphonic”

Yeah have a few Doors like that. Think the Miles Davis Kind of Blue multich discs are 4.0 based, too.

What about having two tower speakers and two bookshelf speakers as stereo system? Can I improve the stereo performance?

Maybe you should explain more about the whole speaker setup you have and what you are trying to do....

Tower speakers can play louder and in some cases have more full range capabilities but I'm not sure what you mean by improving the stereo performance.

On the surface I would say no they won't, but again not entire sure what you mean by stereo performance. If the space is 5000 cf I would go with towers most likely.

For non-critical listening like parties, I can see more speakers to spread the sound more evenly.

I have two tower speakers Bronze 5, two bookshelf speakers Bronze 2, two Bronze 1, a central and a subwoofer, since my AVR can handle a configuration 5.1 with two front speakers (the towers and the bookshelfs) I was guessing about the benefit of that.

Your avr has one other option for front speakers and that is for height speakers (some have provision for "wide" position up front but yours doesn't appear to have that option). Running two pairs of your speakers as main L/R speakers isn't generally recommended, even if one pair is in back on zone 2 (using the all zone stereo mode), though you could certainly try it and see if you like it. I'd think you'd get similar results as simply using the multi-channel stereo sound mode with your current surround setup. With two channels playing same content through two pairs of speakers you'll be subject to comb filtering and cancellation effects.
