Hi all..
I have a Onkyo TX-NR 809 receiver that most of the HDMI ports seem to be fried or work intermittent.. HDMI board seems to be a relatively easy fix? Unit is of course out of warranty..
My question is: Is this unit worth getting fixed? or just move on? Thanks in advance.
We are talking an eight year old receiver that has your issue as a long known problem. Since board runs are only done once, I would think it unlikely there are any boards left. Even if there are, board cost an labor would not be cost effective.
One last point, I don't know how handy you are, but others have brought those HDMI boards back to life by recapping them. Believe it or not there has been reasonably good evidence provided, that those boards fail more often that not because the caps were specked with an inadequate heat rating. I find that actually astonishing and basically inexcusable. For me recapping would require more effort than I would want to expend on a unit like that. I take the proverbial hat off though, to those that have accomplished the task.
