Amp Speaker?

I have a Pioneer VSX-LX103 connected to a Sony XBR900F tv. When I first power it on, AMP SPEAKER shows on the AVR Display for about 30 seconds and then the Display will switch to CBL/SAT, which it is programmed to do thru HDMI Standby Thru. I have searched everywhere including the Manual to see what Amp Speaker showing on the Display means but find nothing. Anybody know?

Do you happen to hear a "click" coming from the AVR when it makes the transition?

If you do, Then I'm guessing AMP SPEAKER may just signify that it is running internal tests before it engages the amp/speaker relays. Test passes, and the clicks you hear are the relays activating.

No clicking, it just quickly displays Directv (I edited the name from CBL/SAT). Doesn’t display Amp Speaker every time, just most.

You may have an intermittent short, most likely wiring and if not, then possibly a short internal to one speaker. Check the wiring on the back side and see if you have any errant connections. Next, you can disconnect each speaker one by one and see if it still does it or disconnect them all and reconnect one by one to see if the issue returns.

I'm guessing you're using ARC?

Well, I am not very technical but I did have to turn off HDMI CEC. I kept having sound go off, stay off a few minutes and come back, turning CEC off seems to have fixed that. So as far as ARC, all I know is the HDMI cable is connected Reciever ARC to Sony TV ARC. Looking in the Manual again, I see it should give me a message of “Check SP Wire” if there is a wire short or “AMP Diag Mode” if another issue, but nothing about “AMP Speaker”. I just thought maybe one of you Gurus on here might know. I am trying to find time to call Pioneer Tech Support. Thanks to all who commented.

Seems familiar about the amp speaker thing....I had a Pioneer a while back and seems to me that's a reference as to where the tv sound was being output, via the amp or tv....something like that? Did you lose ARC when turning off CEC?

I lost the ability for my Directv Remote to turn off/on all devices with just that remote. I have to operate each with its own remote. I am fine with that. My husband is disabled and watches tv all day and the issues with this system were driving me crazy, he was calling me from his recliner, telling me the sound was off (he has medical issues so don’t fault him for not knowing how to fix sound himself). So turning off CEC simplified my life even with using individual remotes. I know I could get something like a Harmony, but I don’t have the time to learn how to use one, I am fine with the old school way of using each remote.

Harmony remotes don't have a lot of learning curve to them, and are great for general macros, turning on/off gear for different sources/uses and simple controls of volume, channel, etc. You basically let Logitech's database program the remote based on the make/model of each piece of gear, it's fairly painless. Bunch of remotes works well, too. Good luck!
