Not using all channels damage an AV receiver?

Although year/model makes a price difference, it seems for around the same wattage, AV receivers seem to be cheaper than a stereo or integrated amp. Will utilizing a 7.2 receiver with only using the front and sub out for speakers damage it? I may add rear eventually, but probably never the last two channels.

Wont damage it at all. All will be fine.

You've noticed, on your own, what many of us have preached here at AH, that AVRs are a better $/watt deal. Despite what salesmen claim, stereo receivers or integrated 2-channel amps don't provide better sound quality. They cost more if you compare cost vs. power.

Not at all.

You can turn the rest of those channels off in the config so it does not try to send signal to them, as that signal would then be missing since you aren't using them.
