Another “Dual or Single” Query....

Odd space / space limitations have me slanted toward primarily music orientated system. Inclined toward crisp, snappy dynamics so finalists per budget for mains are Klipsch RP-600ms or the Hsu CC-8. I could coin flip for them - my question is for subs— I just can’t decide among the Hsu ULS-15 , an SVS SB-3000 or going two SB-1000s. It seems it is somewhat brawny and “tunable” singles vs. the benefits of duals that don’t offer much tunability. Thoughts on the matter are greatly appreciated— new to the forums!

I'd get the Hsu myself of those choices (and possibly another after a while). How large is your room and do you need to worry about other than your own seat?

I am inclined toward the Hsu as well- point taken that one can always get another of the more “premium” sub rather than be a bit “stuck” with two of the lower line that would then need to be both upgraded. It’s a finished basement approx 20’ by 28” with a center floor support creating quadrants ,exercise space, plus glass slider walkout necessitating a quadrant dedicated to TV/ two channel audio. I am sure the single Hsu would certainly not be too taxed though I am unsure what room anomalies to expect since the one or two listeners are essentially about mid room in depth, and on one side. That skew has me thinking ultimately two subs of any kind would offer the smoothest response?

Two SB-1000s could get you an overall flatter response and more accurate sound, if you know how to set them up correctly. You can't just get two, and just place them in the most convenient spot, and assume that will grant you a better response. It does take a bit of effort. I don't think that two SB-1000s would have the dynamic range of the ULS-15 or SB-3000 though.

As for the Klipsch RP-600m vs Hsu CCB-8, that is a toughie. I think that the modified tractrix waveguide in the Klipsch speaker probably has a bit better directivity control, but the Hsu's imaging is to die for. The Hsu speaker probably has greater dynamic range too. The Klipsch speaker will likely dig a bit deeper, but who cares when a subwoofer is being used.

Yeah the promise of that imaging with the CCs has me pretty sold, plus I just like their slightly unconventional look and approach overall.
I guess I am a bit daunted by the prospect of positioning two subs- my initial thought was just setting them up as a "stereo" pair inside of both satellites and crossing my fingers that the room abides? Whereas a single ULS might go on one side near corner with Q, level and EQ settings tweaked as ear dictates?

What does the rest of the system consist of? Is bass management included? Someone once said subwoofers go where they want, not necessarily where you want.

A stereo pair closely positioned to the towers isn't a terrible spot. It just might not be ideal. An advantage to that placement is that you could use higher crossover frequencies than the typical 80 Hz, in case you want more midbass punch but without the localizing that would occur with a single sub. If you went with a single sub, you would still want to try different locations to see what has the best response. Corner placement usually isn't too bad.

Decca 125Sky mostly streaming Tidal, so no bass management, full range sats, I would likely have the sub(s) starting at about 50-60hz?

Yeah the Decco has nothing to help so all you can do is twiddle with the low pass filter on the sub (probably somewhere around the f3 of your "full range" sats) unless your sub has bass management crossover features of it's own (rather than just a low pass filter, also a high pass filter output for your speakers). Hsu sells a separate box for a high pass filter for the speakers, tho.

I've had the HSU ULS. Perhaps the new version is better, but I imagine the SVS SB-3000 will outdo it. Plus the hassle-free returns are great. However, the ULS is supposed to be great for music so it might be a good choice.
