Let me start by saying back in 2005 I purchased Paradigm Studio 100 v3 speakers at a close out sale without any knowledge of what I was buying. I had an underpowered receiver at the time that could not drive them and sounded bad...really bad.
I’ve kept them, moving from state to state and stored them away...out of sight out of mind.
Over the last month I decided to put together a 5.1 sound system built around a 4k television. I picked up a Pioneer Elite AV receiver, Ultra HD Sony DVD player that also played sacd’s, Elac Uni-fi front bookshelf speakers and Elac Debut surround speakers. I had an older Mirrage sub but noticed it had a blown speaker. So after hooking all up and let the speakers break in during the week I was surprised how well it sounded. But still not great...what now. Wait I dusted off the Studio 100’s and replaced for front speakers...I was blown away as the clarity and sound stage was beyond words. They seemed to disappear and no longer sounded like speakers. I now added a SVS SB-3000 sub and only thing I need to add is a turntable and pick up Sacd’s.
I did some research on the Studio 100’s and even went out and compared to speakers in the $2300@ range and in my opinion ranked as good if not better.
I think speaker technology has not changed as much so if you have a chance pick up and audition do yourself a favor you won’t be disappointed.
