Looking for a recommendation for a good CD player. Used for a stereo 2.0 setup. Something in the range of $300 or less perhaps? Should have digital outs
Used or new.

Thanks

Its somewhat likly its not your cd player thats the issue and it might be a good idea to FLAC your CDs and stream them from a pc or maybe an external drive if the new intgrated amp can do that.

Just CDs? A decent bluray player will work just fine and cost far less than $300. Something like the Sony S-series models....thing to watch these days if they have any analog connections and whether just hdmi output....

Definitely a consideration, how I play standard redbook CDs is to simply rip them on receipt and use other ways of delivery to my gear (wifi, thumb drives mostly). Is there a current cd player that has some sort of issue?

I use JRiver and rip my CDs as wav files. Wav takes up more space on the hard drive but that's not a concern for me. Wav is completely uncompressed and sounds indistinguishable from the actual CD.

FLAC is a wav file inside a losslessly compressed container so its bit for bit exactly the same as wav(or cd which is wav) when unpacked before its sent to the DAC.

NAD and Cambridge Audio make some $300 CD players with decent DACs built in. If you already have a decent DAC you can get by with a less expensive player by Sony or another manufacturer.

Seriously: Any functioning CD player will work. Use the DAC in your AVR (use the optical out). Differences are in shock rejection and the ability to read damaged disks. Put the money somewhere more useful

(Side note: I totally want a McIntosh CD Player because I *love* the look; but I ain't paying $800 for a used one)

Agreed, I have some FLAC files on my PC as well, and they sound great. The OCD in me just rips as wav and streams it directly to the 3060

For a CD player, the important thing is that there is no mechanical noise. Beyond that, I like a nice smooth tray operation if it is a tray loading device.

Go on Amazon, check out Onkyos C7030, I had their C7020 you may still pick one up for under 200. Very nice unit for not a lot of coin. It reviewed very well for an inexpensive player..
