Settings on Denon 4400

Just got my Ultra Center Channel today, got it hooked up, rested it, works fine. I ran Audyssey, however, put tv on, and noticed no sound coming out. Can you help me out with the settings as I probably messed something up. I did notice it had all speakers set to a 40
crossover when I had it at 80. Beats me but any help would be appreciated.

On a fun note, that huge center channel speaker would not fit in my cabinet, so I put my OLED on top of it, and not only does it fit perfect that way but it looks BAD ASS!!! And frees up some space up top, which I’d the cherry.

First would be confirm that you have an appropriate sound mode selected: Not stereo, but Dolby surround or multi-channel stereo.
If watching a movie, adjust to Movie/Dolby or DTS.

Hope that helps... if not, holler back!

No sound coming out from all your speakers or just from the center?

I will say this, though. Long-term I’d rather have an independent stand that accommodates the center channel speaker. TV is a 65 inch OLED. Any suggestions there?

Probably is that simple a fix...

Hmmmm you'll need to give measurements of the center channel hard to recommend a good stand if you don't know how big it needs to be to fit the center channel in there

Just the center, had it on hockey and heard no noise.
I'd go with what Ryanosaur said make sure you have it on a good surround format

Also go into the Denon menu make sure in amp configuration it's on

also go to channel levels and run a test tone make sure it's working

Also why set your crossover at 40hz when you have the beautiful PB 16 ultra to cover your low end? Why not cross it over higher and give it room to breath? Did you keep it at 40 or set it higher?

It was working when I initially set it up but quit reading the center channel speaker for some reason, not sure why but wasn't showing it. I reset it, and it's working fine now.

So at this moment, I have all my front towers set to small, crossover for all speakers at 80, and the sub LFE set at 120. I ran Audyssey, and it set the levels and distances. Now I'm supposed to turn that off, right? So how exactly do I turn it off? And, again, and sorry to be redundant, but why do I turn it off again.

And the center channel is just your vocal speaker, right? There's no bass or mid to it, just makes vocals loud and clear. It's definitely doing that, can turn volume WAYYY down on TV now when watching and hear fine. What else should I do to configure?

I might call SVS to see if they offer one or can give a good recommendation, too.

What does the DSU do?
D - Dolby
S - Surround
U - Upmixer

It matrixes the channels from a less channel source to as many speakers as you have.

Such as 2.0 to 5.1

This technology has improved dramatically from where it was prior to the latest version. :)

I'd try using Audyssey for more than just setting levels/delays. I'd turn off Dynamic Volume (some avrs set that to on post-Audyssey) and enable Dynamic EQ, tho. If you don't want to use Audyssey just go into the setup menu - audio - Audyssey - MultEQXT32 - off.

Generally in a 5.1/7.1 mix the vocals will primarily be in the center channel. If you have a 2ch source you can upmix it with the sound modes, too. Other sounds than vocals will be in the center channel on occasion depending on the mix. I wouldn't use the tv's speakers at all, tho.

It is not just for vocal, depending on how the source (movies, music,TV programs etc.) are mixed, it typically has a lot of vocal contents, but it will reproduce whatever the contents have, full range. Others have responded to the rest of your questions.

Couldn't he put in on multichannel stereo then? It should convert the signal to all speakers even if it's not a multichannel signal right?
Why would you want to use multich stereo? Especially if he only has 3.1?
