Ok i know better now, but i was moving some speaker wires to different posts on the back of my Onkyo tx nr676, accidentaly touched two wires together and it popped and shut down.I turned it back on, and now even though it sounds fine, the volume doesnt even come through until about 30.So to listen to anything ,music, movies etc ,i have to crank the volume up to about 70 or 80 where as before it was plenty loud enough at 40.I reset the unit like the manual says.I used the remote to adjust dbs in the other setting and was able to bring it up some but not really.Im sure ive fried something but what?And if so is there a fix?

Might be worth trying to disconnect it from power for a while and/or do a factory reset.

I did actually disconnect for about 48 hrs while i was taking it to best buy and then ran through the reset process when i hooked it back up

I've done similar. Usually: the safety kicks in and I get to see what I did wrong and the amp lives another day.

I don't have the background to guess at what would cause that in a "linear class A/B" amp.

Or at least power it off. Since you moved them do the original speaker posts have the same problem?

Beyond the soft and hard resets not much you can do in terms of settings (unless you somehow maybe turned on a mute feature that's maybe 20-30dB down?), sounds like something has failed.

What AVR?

Have you tried pure direct to see if the issue still exists?
I had a similar problem (I believe it was after a reset). My first clue was finding out that the volume was restored in pure direct.
I don't remember the exact details, but I think it thought I had a center channel that I did not have connected at the time and the L & R were muted compared to normal. Once I went into the setup and told it there was no center and re-ran audyssey, all was well.

Yes its all across the speaker posts , no matter whats hooked up

I guess whats strange is that ive read reviews where theres an issue like this with the volume right out of the box.So it makes me think it could be a setting that im missing
