Speaker Decision Time

I'm trying to decide between the Revel F228be with a Revel C208 (all new) and Dynaudio Focus 380's with Focus 210c (used). The Revel's are going to between $2500 and $3000 more, but they are new and I am getting a deal. I will be using a Denon AVR x6400h to drive the Revels and I know I will have to buy an amp to power the Dynaudios, thus there goes the majority of the savings. I have yet to hear the Dynaudios as they are a decent drive away, but have read good things in my research. I have yet to read anything but rave reviews about Revel F228be's. I am in the process of building a dedicated home theater and currently have 4 in wall and 4 in ceiling Revels as well as 2 Revel subwoofers. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Dyns like a lot of power and work well with something biased heavily into Class A. You want something with very good damping and nothing that is even the slightest bit 'forward' sounding IMO. The Revel's are a lot more forgiving of the amp.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Revels. I eventually want to go with an amp for the fronts but I can get by without one for the time being. Getting too good a deal to pass up.

Didn't realize the Denon wouldn't support 4ohm output. That makes sense. As far as power goes, that 6400 has plenty of power to drive the Dynaudios. I'm not a believer that amps sound differently, so I'll leave that alone, but if the 6400 won't drive 4ohms (which seems odd to me in that series of receiver), it's kind of moot.

Both Revel and Dynaudio makes great speakers. They should sound more alike than different on account of their wide dispersion and flat frequency response. It's a coin toss between them.

From what I've been told the Dyna's are power hogs. I don't know that to be true.

Dynaudio Focus 380 freq resp and impedance shown in this review:

Appears to be a little bit low sensitivity, and a little bit low impedance, but nothing outrageous on either that would make them particularly power hungry.

You need stop stop it with the 'facts' and 'logic'. This is the world of audio- only feelings and myths count here. ;)

I was expecting to be called a commie for linking to a Russian audio website!

(I *think* that's Russian!?)
