YPAO calibration is setting all my speakers to a high +db?

Hi all,

Recently got my first audio system, 5.1.2 with a Yamaha Receiver and it's been great!
What I am concerned about is how high the ypao calibration has been setting my speakers?
The sub comes in around -3db but the speakers are all being set to around +5 to 7db by ypao?
Everywhere I've been reading it says you should try get to as close as 0db as possible with the speaker trim.
I'm not getting any distortion/clipping of any sort and around -15 to -20db on my receiver is quite loud and sounds clear

Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers

A little more information would be good for those who know yamaha receivers better then me.
What speakers?
How far away from them do you sit?
Small/large room?
Speakers set to small/large and crossovers (probably not needed info but doesnt hurt)

I wouldn't worry about it.

As long as YOUR actual volume is safe, then it's all good.

I've set all my trim levels high all my life on all my AVR/AVP.

No big deal at all.

Whether it's a Denon or Yamaha, my master volume is usually at -30.0. And it's usually pretty loud enough.

Try rerunning ypao with the sub at a lower gain setting...

I’m watching Edge of Tomorrow at -25. :)

Turning my sub gain down 10% made all the difference.
Re ran ypao and everything was + or - 2 within 0
Cheers

Funny you mention that because yesterday I was watching about 15 minutes of Edge of Tomorrow, which is probably my favorite movie of all times. I think the volume was at -26.

Still waiting for those bastards to release an Atmos version of the movie. Bastards.

Ya I started off at -25 but ended up doing -27 for the rest of the movie. I forgot how much I liked this one. :)

Unlike my Audyssey avrs, YPAO from what I'd read balances the sub and speaker levels together (in my Audyssey avrs sub level is independent of the speaker levels). Glad it worked out for you....

-25 is pretty tame in my room(now). But something interesting happened. When I installed my 6012, I noticed that I have to increase my MV higher than before to reach the same(subjective) levels. My guess is that my RSL’s. Are less sensitive and the trims are in the +. I think somehow that’s just how it offset the MV. Watched Staind, live at Mohegan sun at -8 the other day. Just like being in the room!
