Monday morning I disconnected the Denon and put the Onkyo 6.5 back in. My television looks immaculate. There is a noticeable drop off in the sound.
I was going to return the Denon and get something better ???

On my current setup the tv is connected to the Directv box via hdmi, I connected the dtv to the receiver with a digital audio cable.

Could I connect the Denon in the same way and utilize the sound without messing up my display?

What do you think?

Could it be theDirectv box? They have been pushing me to upgrade to the 4K equipment.

I am close to cutting the cord.

@Old Onkyo: You might know this, but many AVR settings can be set and recalled by the Denon QuickSelect buttons on the remote. For setting a QuickSelect button just hold in for a second or so (you'll see in the OSD that it has been set).

I use these QuickSelect buttons in my Logitech Harmony remote where they are used when starting a Logitech "activity" (like, watch TV, listen to Music). The Denon remote has four QuickSelect buttons but the receiver can recognize five buttons and the fifth is available from the Logitech remote.

No matter which AVR you buy, you should not have to compromise on a work-around solution.

You can always try something else to see if it works better, perhaps more compatible. And if it doesn't work, you can return it and try something else.

I purchased two new cables with every feature known to man, Wirelogic Sapphire HDMI cables.
In this case wires made the difference. Picture perfect.
The sound is definitely an upgrade from the old Onkyo.
I will be calling SVS tomorrow, I see an empty subwoofer connection in the back of this unit.

I assume you mean on your Denon AVR? If you push the Option button on the remote you'll get a popup menu where you can choose "Tone" that sets bass and treble, but you will not see the Tone menu item if DynamicEQ is enabled. So you have to choose between DEQ and Tone control.

I’m sorry, the receiver.

Another thing I can’t figure, can I over ride Audyssey setting my speakers to large?
I do believe you can, I have my front speakers set to large also. For me, after I run the Auto setup and do my lil tweaking I turn off most of the Auto processing off.

Of course...Auddysey themselves never recommended the large setting when using a sub...that's the avr manufacturer. Only precaution is not to lower crossovers below the Auddyssey reco, raising is fine. All my avrs have bass/treble controls but via software, not dedicated knobs like old gear.

Setting a speaker pair small/large is bass management that is separate from Audyssey. You will find those settings in the Speaker menu.
