Sounds intriguing and feasible to me!
Reason for hope that we can fix our corrupt system?
Anybody heard of "Represent Us"?

You were just reminded that 1 in 5 children live in poverty, in the US, but couldn't handle the word 'trigger'?

Not at all, I contribute to Katerina's club every year (for those unaware, it's a charity that feeds the motel kids in southern California). What I can't handle is the "you just said something that I don't agree with, therefore I will act as if it's unjust", see the word trigger. We as a nation fought tooth and nail for our independence, I agree with the notion that we, as Americans, have a responsibility to turn out and elect those that represent our beliefs. I'm also onboard with the fact that polotitions serve the dollar, not their people. What I can't get behind is the pussification of our young, the push towards every thought or believe by every person in this country is cause for a firestorm, why we have to bend over for the loud few and why your feelings are a high priority (by "your " I'm not singling anyone out, it's a mentality sort of thing). I work hard for a living, I pay my taxes, I support my wife and children. I do what I can to help others, just not those that feel my help is obligatory, expected or ungrateful.

And know I've bypassed one of my two rules, never talk about religion or politics. I apologize, and will now bow out. No good can come of this. I enjoy learning from this forum too much. I respectfully bow out.

I respect your decision to pull out of the conversation, but if you would be so kind as to provide the time of the video where that happened so I can associate your comments with the relevant content, I would appreciate it!
Thanks!

They all lie!! :p.
Well put and at least you elect your Senators! Our Senators are all government appointed leaches and parasites stacked up like cord wood doing nothing but suck out money. Your Prez can only run for two terms and ours can be in as long as idiots keep them in, in Canuckastan. Tricky lord helmet had our present Doper Gropers father described very well! He often refered to Trudeau Senior as an asshole! Yes they all lie and it's easy to tell if they lie, if their lips move they are lieing.

I 100% agree about lobbyist making law laws rather than the people. I am a big gun enthusiast and owner but I hate the NRA with a passion. Reason being, their "pay-offs" to congressmen, senators, and the political influence they have in our system of government. The NRA seems to seems dictate gun laws via endorsements and money for marketing and advertising campaigns. They actually have a score card for government officials. IMO the NRA is no different than big pharma, who pay out big time to Mitch McConnell btw.

proposed concept on fixing our political system!
Make a law saying that private corporations and associations can not donate more than 10k to government officials or political nominees. Ahhhh they be soo pissed. This would level the playing field big time IMO.

When that 113M gets cut to 10k both the left and right would be freaking out. But what's the likelihood Congress would pass a law that would hurt their own interests and their own pockets? close to to 0. Moral of the story, $ talks.

If you can seriously listen to the left or right and not realize you’re being manipulated then I don’t have much to talk about. For me the right is more appealing, not because I agree with their platform. I have one toe in the Libertarian pool too. From my career in auto sales I have worked with people in all walks of life from very poor to the extreme rich and nobody is that smart. From what I can tell Liberals want higher taxes and for government to spend that money taking care of “the least of these”. My problem is people make up the government and from what I can tell people aren’t very smart. If we centralize power with the government we are all equally screwed! Conservatives, while no smarter than Liberals, generally want less government. If government is less in control I can choose to work with the private company I choose and is less shitty than the next company. If Liberals are in control all companies will be equally shitty and it won’t matter who I do business with, they will all suck the same. Personally I want the choice to work with a company that is shirty in a way I prefer.

The problem I have with the Federal government include lobbying and the fact that 'the least of these' were created by the Fed, state and local governments, so it's a self-perpetuating cycle of squashing people, then funding the aid that doesn't really help them enough to get them on their feet and when they come close, they're squashed again. Milwaukee is a good example of hot NOT to operate- in the 1960s, the city had a pretty small number of people in poverty and now, it's far more and living in a much larger area. MKE hasn't had a Republican Mayor since 1908, unless the one who was called Republican/Democrat from 1912-1916 is considered. One non-partisan was in office from '42-'48 and since 1908, the others were Socialist (38 years) and Democrat (63 years).

Taxes increase, the condition of the city has done nothing but decline, except where it sparkles.

Term limits.
If the voting public had brains we wouldn't need term limits. We would simply vote them out but, no, we just complain and keep on re-electing these losers..

What other country allows non-citizens to vote for their representatives? And, why the fuss over photo ID to vote? Poorer countries manage it. Why can't we?

Also, please note that over half of our representatives are millionaires while only 1% of the general public are. And, what was their worth when they took office? Hmmmm??? Maybe those lobbyists pay better than we do,

OK, Rant over. I said I wouldn't get involved in politics. That's it for me. I 'm outta here.

This has actually turned out to be semi-productive!

There seems to be a general agreement that people on any side of the table are displeased with congresspeople holding office for life, as well as over turning Citizen's United.

Staying on topic with the video - the fact is, regardless of what your preferred type of government is, the matters I mentioned above are a few of the roots that ensure We the People are NOT being represented by the people we have elected - regardless of public support, Congress has a 30% chance of turning a bill in to a law!

That would be easier if the government didn't decide what people were "taught"- it doesn't allow critical thinking and I know some kids who had a hard time in high school because they ARE critical thinkers.

Why the fuss? Because too many people say it's racist, even though it'snot. However, with so many places that want to allow illegals to have a driver's license, that point will soon be moot and I expect to see a push from the Left to use photo IDs, especially driver's license.

The US now has more millionaires than the total population of Sweden. Let's be more like Sweden.

You're right, we absolutely need to start teaching our children about how effective FDR was despite being the only multi-term President, and what happened to our political system after WW2.

We need to teach them about how recently it was that African-Americans were actually allowed to go to school with white people, or how recently women were even allowed to vote! And not this Eli Whitney BS to try and make slavery sound ok because we made their fingers bleed a little less with the cotton-gin.

But then you selectively roll your IQ back to take the discussion of fixing our political system, to complaining about 'illegals having driver's licenses.'

And then you finish with wanting to be more like Sweden. Huge taxation, nearing guaranteed income for all citizen's, universal healthcare, heavy restrictions on firearm ownership - I am sorry to say sir, but you do not appear to be thinking, critically!

Definitely some interesting observations. It's certainly hard for me to disagree with the notion that gerrymandering has gotten pretty abusive in some cases, or ignore the corrupting influence of money in politics. I do wonder a bit about the public support vs likelihood of being passed graph though. It's easy to gain broad support for a general concept, say protecting the environment. Translating that into support for an actual piece of legislation with particular ideas of how something should get done, associated costs, etc. is a different matter entirely.

On another note, I feel like there is some irony in having J-Law as the spokesperson for the video. With a net worth over $100 million, she's a lot closer to the billionaires she mentioned than us peons.
