I was talking about manual set up. Using my Radio Shack spl meter, I turned all speakers up to 75db. This equaled +6/+6.5. Audyssey set them all at -6/-6.6. It sounds good either way.
I set the receiver at 4ohms. Thicker, clearer, more powerful sound. Music is nice.
The multi channel stereo sounds the best. The rest of those listening modes sound like garbage.
I listen to Donald Fagen -Kamakiriad as my test cd.
The surround modes like dolby surround and DTS arent actually meant for 2 channel music. The 5ch/multi ch stereo one is. Stereo music from cd etc. is in general considered best kept as stereo although the 5ch stereo mode can be fun and many like it.

Audyssey set the L/R levels to negative to match the level of the sub. In your case, if you turn the sub's vol (the knob) down a little, re-run Audyssey, the levels will be set closer to zero.

I have always listened to music with four speakers. Back in the 70’s I put one in each corner or the room. In the 80’s I stacked them left and right.

Interesting... when I initially went through the setup menu, the first thing it had me do was to turn down the subwoofer, before Audyssey began.

The receiver is starting to grow on me.

May be you turned it down a little too much. Nothing wrong for the levels to be at -6 to -7, even -8 though. It is better to be in the negatives than in the high positives.

They actually flashed a meter on the screen in the red, I turned it until it was green.
I have 5.1.4 Atmos setup. I love using DTS NeuralX for music.

I think it sounds better than any SACD/ DVD-A/ DTS-CD I've ever heard.
Really! I will keep that in mind.

So I went in the setup menu and manually adjusted everything from zero based on the Audyssey setting. -6 =0, -6.5 = -.5 etc. sounds good and I won’t have to worry about running hot.

As long as you do the same to all channels.. Btw, the red/Green flash meter is very touchy so yeah you likely over adjusted, resulting in the high negatives, that really are harmless to begin with.

Yes I did. Correct me if I am wrong, those values only take over if Audyssey is off correct? I will run Audyssey again.

I ran Audyssey again. Initially it told me my base was too low so I adjusted it until it was acceptable. I ran the program again and the settings were even more negative(lower) But it sounds great.

I was having trouble connecting to my iPhone via Bluetooth. After an hour I called Denon, the service representative tried a few things then advised me to return the unit.
I knew it was something in the settings because I previously connected no problem. Turns out I have a 5g and a 2g network. I was on the wrong one.

Curious about this. BT doesn’t use the network so I wonder why 2g or 5g would matter. I personally prefer airplay as I don’t feel BT audio is as good. If your using AirPlay, which does use the network, then your situation makes sense.

In my experiementing with sub level with my Audyssey avrs, I've found speaker level to be independant of where I set sub level in the setup routine for Audyssey (in my Audyssey avrs you aim at 75dB level for the sub before starting the speaker routine). I think Yamaha's YPAO speaker level is directly related to sub level, tho

You are right William. I had to go on the phone and select the Denon receiver. Once I did that that airplay turned on and the sound quality improved .

To think: the CSR advised me to return the unit to the store.
