I’m torn between adding an amp and risking hiss or hum vs a 3000 series. LOL :)
Hum noise is always a risk with external amps. I think all my external amps (including ATI) had hum when I was living at my previous house. I had to use a cheater-plug (which you're not supposed to do :D).

I think the RX-A2060 can already power 5.1.4 just fine (to loud volume) since it was made for 5.1.4.

Those 4 little ceiling speakers don't require much power anyway, probably 1-10 watts.

Just set all speakers to small and let the subwoofer do all the heavy lifting (GEICO commercial: it's what they do). Then your 5 bed-speakers will require about 1-50 watts. It's what they do. :D

So I would use A2060 and save up money in your HT piggy bank.

There are some things I would buy refurbished if the price difference is enough and can get a warranty. Hey, many people spend thousands to buy a used car...same concept. If the risk is worth the price, go for it. I've bought refurbished and had no problems. I'm sure there are stories of reasons not to buy refurbs.

You skipped the other parts of my post. I guess I should have said, I would rather spend my money on refurbished with a warranty vs buying something used. The car thing was to compare how some people will take a chance with something that costs a lot more than a receiver and often with little or no warranty but has problems with buying something that cost a few hundred dollars with a warranty. Again, I state; it depends on what the individual buyer is willing to assume as a gamble or not.

Not quite the same....these are refurbished not “used”.

You have a point.

Has anyone heard of a refurbished car?:D

It’s unnecessary to compare these $1K AVR to used cars that could cost $50-$60K.

Let’s just stick to AVR.

We have seen examples after examples every single year where you can buy a brand new AVR for the same price, lower price, or similar price as a refurbished AVR.

The point is as follows:

1. If you can buy brand new at the same price, lower price, or similar price as a refurbished AVR or AVP, then buy brand new. Every single year and probably every single month.

2. If you can save $300 or more on refurbished and you feel lucky, that’s your call. Might want to buy from a brand that is rated #1 (YAMAHA) in reliability if you buy refurbished. :D

Yeah, they have reconstructed or rebuilt cars and we know what they are. They are definitely not some store demos or simple returns. Haha. :D

But cars are completely different than some $500 - $1,000 AVR. And it seems most people have no idea what they are actually getting when they buy a refurbished AVR.

I really wouldn't buy anything over few hundred refurbished. A4L has a very good record but still spending 1K on a refurbished I'll pass.

AudioRX I really do agree with all of your points EXCEPT where you get to tell everyone what they can compare or not compare. Then an hour later you write a response about exactly what you suggested we not talk about. There are going to be different opinions and different comparsions of situations that might not go well with you, but that is the great thing about everyone making their own choices. The same can be said as for what amount a person thinks is savings enough for them to buy refurbished. Many people don't research, as you stated. I agree there are many many instances where brand new receivers can be bought for, at or below the prices of refurbs. I have determined my own rules of exactly what I will pay for a refurb vs brand new. My rule is not important to anyone except me. Others most likely have their own rules.

Ya I can add another Rythmik sub to go 5.2.4 if necessary. Or move my HSU pair into the theater room and the Rythmik to the living room.

I like matching. :D

So I vote for moving dual HSU to HT room and moving Rythmik to living room.

You're right. You're right. I take it back. My bad. :D

It's just that SOOOOOOOOOO many people have compared AVRs and Amps to automobiles over the years......

Why......... just a few days ago, some guys were comparing AVRs to Minivans and Integrated Amps to Quality Sedans.

So when you mentioned used cars, I was just thinking, "Not another car analogy". :D

But if f you’re subwoofer were a car, which would it be???!!! :D:p:cool:
Well, my RBH SI-1010 and four Velodyne SC600 subs are really boxy, so they would be the Mercedes G500. :D

The five RBH SX-1010 have some curves to them, so they would be the Lexus LX 570. :D

And they would NOT be Refurbished either. :D

Certified preowned is pretty much the same as a refurbished electronic device. Both go through or are supposed to go through the same relative inspection process.

"Refurbished" electronics for the most part are just tested (supposed to be) to see that they work properly. Most are just returns that didn't have anything wrong with them, others something small that was fixed, just like a certified preowned vehicle would be. ;)

I don't think a "Certified Preowned Lexus LX 570" is pretty much the same as a refurbished electronic device.

If I could buy a new Lexus LX570 brand new for $6,000 MORE than a 3YR certified, I would be happy to pay $6,000 more.

One thing about refurbished is the warranty difference. New is USA 3 years vs refurbished 1 year.

DO YOU FEEL LUCKY?
