Hey All,

I have been reading up on both the Marantz CD6006 and Emotiva ERC-3 CD Players, and cannot decide which one to buy. Any thoughts? Anyone who has actually tried both? - Thx, Tom

I thought about them... am using my Blu-ray player for all disc based media. Works great.

IMO, buying a CD player costing more than $500 nowadays is not a good idea.
For that kind of expense, I would get one of the Sony 4K Blu-ray players which are well built, either the UBP-X700 or the UBP-K800. These players will play CDs as well as any CD player on the market. Moreover, you will be able to use it to watch blu-ray, DVD (or 4K discs when you get a 4K TV set).

Uncertain about availability or cost, but the 2019 x800 from Sony should have full on feature set for all Hi Res music and 4k/HDR video. I've only owned Sony CD players... and their drive technology is usually excellent.
I have the 2018 X700 which does everything but DVD-A.

Comes out in May I think.

What is the difference between the new 2019 X800 and the X800 which has been selling for a while?

I am interested in getting one, but the current selling model has all the features that I would need.

Dolby Vision is added.

Not sure if anything else changes. For example it would be nice to add HDR support to Netflix and DD+ like they have on Prime. Also if they added Atmos over DD+ for both that would be nice.

I ended up just getting an Apple 4K TV for my streamer since I’m going to 5.1.4 soon.

Yes, that's the main change to the 2019 X800. Last years X700 was the only model to support DV through an update, but it also lacked, originally, the HiRes audio. Beyond that, the X800 is supposed to keep its more premium build quality. Not that I'm unhappy with the X700... its not like I'm playing Frisbee Golf with it! :p But you can feel how light it is.

Ya I have the x700 in my bedroom 2.1 and the x800 in my small theater room. I would like to get one more for the living room so probably the x800m2 to the theater room and migrate the older x800 to the living room. :)

I’d buy the Marantz. Looked at both. Chose to use the Blu-ray. Works just as well as either of those for half the cost plus extra usability.
But still, I would buy the Marantz over emo if for no other reason than I’ve heard just a few too many what-ifs regarding the latter.

A little late to this conversation, but having had both players, I would hands down choose the Emotiva. I found the Marantz to be a very unremarkable player. I am pretty amazed at all the hype around it. Its not a bad player by any means, its just not particularly impressive either. I had the old ERC-3 and it was an exceptional player. Build quality and sound quality are far superior. Emotiva sounds and feels like an audiophile product, the Marantz sounds and feels like a consumer product. I've had several used Sony ES players that I picked up for under $300 that blow the Marantz out of the water in terms of sound quality. Just my opinion
