I’ve bought a Denon 4400 and a set of SVS Ultra Towers.

Hmm well think this is personal preference territory. Gene said he was using DSU to upmix 2ch music in his 7.1.4 system which includes multiple subs and the ceiling speakers and even a ceiling subwoofer or 2 :)
Meant to add the ubiquitous “YMMV”

I do, when I switch over, hear a negative difference in sound quality. Not significant, and I would characterize my preference on the picky side. That said, when I’m alone in the room, nothing beats my 2.2 stereo audio right now.

What are the banana plugs that have three feet braided cords attached to them exactly? Should I get those or just the regular ones?

For subs... you’re asking the the guy with 2 Bassaholic Extreme rated subs in a 2000’3 room? Are ya kidding me?!
o_O
Ha!
I think two: vtf2 or vtf3... mono12... or Pb2000s.
Any would be good.
Hey he keeps bringing up15's but fir the record I have been encouraging him to go the route you suggested.... Mostly.... ;)

Mine are 13”... they have crazy output, especially in a small room. I would say anything that’s cspable of near reference dynamic peaks is good

I know that's why I only recommended a 25ft screen :D
Ya enventually leads to a new home and larger theater room. I’ll try not to f$$k up the ceiling holes too bad for my Atmos speakers at my current house. . LOL :)

One more ridiculously retarded question, I know: Do some people enjoy that two-channel setup so much they just stick with it? Maybe just make it 2.2 or 3.2 and roll on? I know the answer is probably no!! Hahaha!! This is something turn into more than just a hobby I am starting to see. I've had nothing but speakers on my mind for DAYS!! And I don't even understand any of this stuff!! :):)
I am certainly a fan of getting a very good two channel set-up (which you have), then taking your time to flesh out the rest of the system.
If you plan to watch as much movies/HT as listening to movies, then you may want to get the other channels sooner, but typically, as a new guy with the competent gear you have, you will be happy for a good while, so why not kick back and enjoy it! When the shiny starts to wear off of your new toys, you can add more. During the interim, you can spend some time learning about Dolby atmos and surround channels.
I run better than 95% music and less than 5% HT and I have listened to my favorite scenes in movies with only the surrounds active and I can't get very enthusiastic about spending money on high quality surrounds - I just don't hear much that requires high fidelity! I'd rather spend $20,000 on my mains and ~$200/pair on surrounds/atmos speakers! But... to each his own!
Picking your center, on the other hand, does require that it matches your towers so you don't experience a change in the character of the sound as that turbo-hoover-bike travels across the speakers (on the screen). Stick with the Ultra bookshelf (if you realize you are not challenging the SPL limits of your mains, or the Center if you are not too worried about budget and want to blast it!
I also say hold off on the external amp! Your AVR will do just fine powering two Ultra towers (it is after all designed to power 7 speakers and the Ultra Towers are not hard to drive)! Also, once you add subwoofers, you will greatly decrease the power required by your AVR (since the subs have their own amps)!
My priority would be getting AC Infinity cooling fan(s) for the AVR, just to make sure it never overheats!
For now, get what you have hooked up and enjoy the crap out of it for at least a few weeks... then start planning you next acquisition! Sometime the experience of a few weeks will better inform your decisions!

+2 to that!!!
And yeah... the AC Infinity. About $100 for what I use, and worth every single cent!
I use the T series, they have a rear (preferred), top and front venting option, wit ha digital display. Easy to use, and set up.
At the Infinities thermostat, I've seen as much as a 20 degree temperature swing with the fans off vs on.
https://www.amazon.com/AC-Infinity-Rear-Exhaust-Receivers-Components/dp/B01LW1Q429/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1550793706&sr=8-1&keywords=ac+infinity+t8
That's what I would recommend as long as it can vent out the back, so shelf is OK, but not a closed cabinet.

Depends on who you ask, and what they’re listening to. You can have a nice 2.x rig and love it for music and movies just the same.
For me, it’s mood dependent, and content dependent. I will listen to some music in direct(2.0) or srereo(2.3) depending on what I want. NIN, or infected mushroom for me is almost always in 7.3, or now 7.3.4(yay). Pink Floyd or stone sour can be just fine in stereo. I feel like @KEW and I are online friends, but we have different opinions about surround speakers and I don’t think listening to a movie with only surrounds active tells you much about how the group of speakers work together. Sorry Kurt, it’s our same old impasse lol!!!

So for me, with music, it depends. Movies? Now WAY I’m not going multichannel. I even watch wheel of fortune in surround. Wtf......

Kurts the greatest and I think we all have our own tastes but I want bada@$! towers all around the room. That's just the acquired taste I've developed

My last question, too, for now. Me and Danzilla have discussed this quite a bit. Which subwoofer would you go with? I go back and forth on this between say dual SVS2000s, start with a Monlithic 15 (overkill) and Danzilla just said the best bang for the buck is HSU, though I haven't done much homework on those. Can y'all ease me along on this with your thoughts?
This is another hot topic. Iirc, movies and tv are your thing. Football especially right?
I would say(and this is only MY opinion) get a single (insert best sub here) and learn how to integrate it properly before tackling 2 subs. It’s not as simple as plop and play. I like the pc2000 option, and Rythmik is a favorite too. However, HSU seems to be wearing the value crown atm. The mk2 is a beast for 859. When you’re better acquainted with your system, then get a second one, and integrate it. Multiple subs, while great for headroom are most useful at smoothing bass response over multiple seats, but care must be taken to set them up, and they can make things worse without taking the time. As far as I can tell, you’re gonna be concerned with one or two seats the majority of the time. So, IMO you should get the best sub you can afford now and start saving for the second right away. Of course stepping up to two right away isn’t a horrible idea. Pretty sure there’s no shortage of help around here! Lol

Y’all realize I don’t sven know what “headroom” really is? I mean, I surmise it gives you more room at the top, but do I totally understand what the hell that means? Nope!! Crossover?? Not really. Impedance, EQ setting importance, when to plug the ports, this negative decibel difference rating. Hell, about the only thing I actually is sensitivity, but even that I don’t get the scale it runs on. This is like Greek, man!! It’s crazy as hell!! Haha!! I just KNOW that killer sound is hard to beat, and I WANT IT!!

Agreed. Kurt always has well thought out, tasteful posts. It’s like asking 10 builders how to build a house. You’ll get 10 answers. The same is true for building a system. Unless “blose” comes up. Then we all can agree!

I say go for towers all the way around if ya want em. I would, but I’ve already made my compromises. Can’t complain. I mean, I do have a 7.3.4 system in my living room. someday a dedicated room.
