I did not mean to confuse the issue. Unit is failing and it has the shortcomings built in to it that I mentioned about the volume bar not being displayed.

Your AVR doesn't accept or pass through any 4K signal, and this is the reason it won't show the volume on OSD when the related video source is 4K. Your receiver is not defective.

Well....you have already confused the issue. :) If this feature of 4k volume osd that didn't exist is put aside, just what is failing in the avr?

I had a somewhat similar issue with the OSD with my second system. I forgot I had the cable box set to 720p and the video out on the AVR was set to 1080p. That particular receiver is a lower end unit that doesn’t scale video. Once I set the cable box to 1080p it worked fine.
