Vintage Rotel Rx503 issues from one channel

I just got a vintage Rotel RX 503. For those of you looking for reviews on it - It has blow me away completely, absolutely fantastic SQ, better than my Anthem MRX, tried pretty much all the genres and plays everything just fantastic.

Now coming to my main question - The volume knob on the Rotel is giving a little trouble. Sometimes I get only a faint sound from the right channel. But when I press the Knob down a little, tab it gently, full sound comes back in the right channel. I have switched the speakers and the sound persists so it is not the speakers. I have also tried Speaker A and Speaker B outputs, both have the same issue so it is somewhere above the speaker output level. Any help to fix it will be greatly appreciated. I do not know much about electronics, but at this point I like this receiver so much that I am willing to get my hands onto a solder to repair it, but in any case I will need some pointers/ guidance.

Have you cleaned the pot?

I cleaned the input ports at the back - filed them a little bit to remove the oxide layer - if that's what you mean?

Pull the volume control off and clean the dail with contact cleaner, switch and control cleaner. That should do it.
