What avr to buy

I’m building a home theatre room. While I enjoy movies I listen to music much more, is their a way to listen to all surround speakers in stereo mode? What receiver do you recommend ? 7.4.4

Budget? Yes, most avrs have a surround upmixer to enable use of all speakers from a 2ch source; most also have what is generally called a multi-ch stereo mode, altho I don't personally care for that mode except maybe for a party or something. Many avrs will need a supplemental amp for that speaker count, too (for example there are avrs with 9 channels of amp but can process 11 channels). I'd look generally at Denon, Marantz and Yamaha (the last two issues I've had were with Onkyo and Pioneer so I tend not to recommend them just because , altho by most reports their current offerings are fine ).

I’m not taking any shortcut on speakers and amps may take a minute longer but I’ll be patient. So far all I’ve bought are 4polk ls700 for the ceiling and a center, a Dayton 18” sub with 1000wt amp which I want at least 2 of

How big is your room that you want 4 18" subs, man?!!!
Don't get me wrong... I love it, in theory, but I think I experienced some hearing loss just thinking about it!

But I agree with Lovin... depending on your budget, and if you want to buy new-new, you want at least a Marantz SR6013, maybe 7013. If you go separates, AV7705. Denon is the same parent company, and very similar. Their AVRs have slightly less gadgetry, but a little more robust amplification. Just compare models comparable to the Marantz offerings. Last I looked, they do not offer a Surround Pre-Pro like the AV7705.
I've seen a lot of chatter about the Yamaha Aventage line. No experience myself, but its getting some raves. Anthem is on my list of future possibilities, but a bit pricier.

(Currently I'm on an SR6012. I dig it, though I've had a few issues with my unit requiring some warranty service. That said, it seems to be working now.) As soon as I get my new speakers, I'm going to start exploring the world of 5-channel audio. Previously, I had it connected to my old Onkyo HTIB speakers from 2008 and needed to listen in all-channel stereo mode just to get the SPL to enjoy the music. It does work.

That said, keep your options open: get the best, matching front three you can. and if you want to explore 5-channel audio, make certain your L/R Surrounds are pretty decent and fuller range than the normal rule of thumb (~80Hz at the low end).

For 7.1.4 processing, I would recommend the Yamaha RX-A3070 for $1399.

You would need an external 2Ch amp for the surrounds for 7.1.4. The 3070 has enough internal amps for 5.1.4.

The Polk 700LS ceiling speakers are rated for 10W - 150W, so the 60WPC amp should be just fine.

For using all of your speakers for music, I would use either DSU (Dolby Surround up-mixer) or DTS NeuralX (DTS up-mixer). I don't recommend using 9Ch stereo mode because that could stress the heck out of the amp section.

I made a mistake that are 15” subs and I’ve decided to go with 2 for a start. I’m gonna have to go with in wall wall side surround. What would you use ?

From what I understand about subs it would be better to have them at different heights to get rid of dead spots ? I don’t know

I've heard of this but am uncertain of the actual details. The conversation where @shadyJ and @Steve81 were talking about this seemed to indicate that if they are close to the floor as most freestanding subs are, its not really a problem... but elevation will enhance the likelihood, perhaps.
Hopefully one of them will chime in and can offer their advice!
You also might want to start a separate thread in the Subwoofer section for this part of the conversation. you'll probably get more specific answers.

Consider that there are room modes floor to ceiling like there are wall to wall. Scroll down to Mark Seaton's comments in post 10 of this thread.
