Anyone using a Xbox one s? Asking because my wife got me one for Xmas and was wondering if I should hook it directly to my tv or hook it into my avr where my blu Ray player was connected? I run all my stuff through my avr but I’ve read several things where it’s suggested to hook it directly to tv but I think you’ll lose the correct audio from a disc that way. I’ve tried this and I just get Dolby digital cuz I’m using arc from tv into my avr. If anyone has any suggestions/advice love to hear it

I would give it a go through the AVR and see. I’ve had good luck with my Yamahas. Think you have 860. I have the 2060. I’m curious about the Xbox for Atmos games coming out. I may get one. :)

Yea dude I’ve got the 860. Only reason I tried the tv is cuz I have a vizio 65in m-series from 2015. We’ll three of my hdmi ports are 4K @30hz and port 5 is 4K @60hz so I plugged Xbox into port 5 figuring it’d be the best one to have it in. My tv doesn’t have hdr, the vizio got hdr in 2016. When I had it in my tv I couldn’t get atmos cuz of using the arc but I plugged it back in my avr n I’m able to get it. I think I’m supposed to switch my 4K mode in my Yamaha to mode 1 for 4K n hdr cuz it passes it I believe, maybe you would have some insight on that cuz I’m not positive?

Another thing is now how I have it it’s not upscaling to 4K, when my blu Ray was hooked up it was always upscale to 2160 n now it’s at 1080. When I plugged it directly to tv it upscaled so I don’t have a clue now

Yep they default to mode 2 out of the box, so you have to set them to mode 1 for UHD. You also have to enable hdmi ARC on both the AVR and the TV. I’m a Samsung TV owner but I’m sure Vizio has a setting.

So it needs shut off? I’ve never played with changing the 4K mode so hopefully I don’t screw something up. Dk why it’s not upscaling though now

Set to hdmi mode 1 for sure as that is required. I would upscale on the Blu-ray player (such as a Sony x800 or x700, not sure what you have) and pass 2160p thru the AVR to the TV.

Let me look up your manual. It’s a combo of buttons on power up

Well dude I actually unhooked my Blu-ray cuz the Xbox is a 4K player n also plays Blu-ray’s obviously so I really don’t feel the need to have Blu-Ray hooked up to. It just doesn’t upscale how it is now but it did directly to tv but when Blu-Ray was hooked up it was upscaled. I haven’t changed anything on my receiver or tv. You do have to set stuff up in the Xbox though. In setup in my receiver under video, is it supposed to be on direct or processing?

Maybe the receiver is just not upscaling how it’s hooked up now for some reason n it was before when Blu-Ray was hooked up

I hooked the Xbox in the port where my Blu-Ray was which is the Blu-Ray port, maybe I should try a different one?

I’m not upscaling on my receiver. Mine is set to direct.

To go to advanced setup on 860, turn it off. Then hold the “straight” button and power up with the main power button on the AVR. Then scroll to hdmi mode using the “program” button and the “straight” button to select, and make sure it is mode 1.

Yea I looked it up early but have never done it, thx for looking though man. I just changed it. I don’t have to change any of my settings after doing that? What exactly does that allow the receiver to do in that mode?

Mine has always been on direct too but when Blu-Ray was hooked up it always showed a movie as being upscaled. You know what, my tv may have been doing it and that’s why it was upscaled in port 5 when Xbox was plugged in there

Might have been the TV upscaling. What Blu-ray player is it?
