Hi I've lost my SR7005 manual and now I can't switch the amplifier. I have plugged it and when I switch it on, it just goes off in few seconds. Can someone please advise how do I go about connecting this amplifier.

Is the receiver connected to anything? Has this unit been out of service, or did this problem just crop up?

If this unit is connected to speakers, the first thing to do is check that there are no shorts in the speaker wiring. One stray whisker is all it takes to make a receiver shut down. If it all looks good, then disconnect all the speaker wiring at the receiver and see if it will stay on then. If it does then you do have a speaker wiring problem you did not notice, or you have a failed speaker.

If the unit still shuts down, then try a factory reset, but if the unit shuts down right away that will likely not be possible.

If the receiver shuts down after a reset, or you can't do a reset because it shuts down too quickly then the receiver has a major fault. That was a top line model from around 2010 I believe. It is really problematic to decide service or new receiver in that case. About 8 years seems to be becoming typical for the life of receivers, and I'm afraid more recent offerings may not last that long. If it were not for the fact it was top of the line repair would not even be on the table.

The most likely problem is that an output device has shorted out in one of the power amps. If that is the case, then finding the failed amp and replacing the output devices is doable. But the other amps might fail right behind that one.

If it is an amp failure, then you or a tech could remove the power amps and then you just use it as a preamp and you use external amplification. Personally that is what I would do.

Any indication on the avr's panel as to why it shuts off? Think it will stay on long enough to execute a microprocessor reset?

Thanks. I bought it in 2012. Kept it in storage from 2015 till now. Electronics isn't my area I guess I'll have to take it to the technician. I can't locate where the power amps are.

Seriously, I have no life.
Disconnect the speaker wires and try it- if it stays on, check the wires, as TLS mentioned, at both ends. If you had to splice the wires, check that and make sure none of the strands from the Positive are touching the Negative.

yeah, don't take it to the tech until you at least try disconnecting the speakers from the back of the receiver and see if it will turn on.

Since it has been in storage so long, it probably has a bad cap some place.

Caps long discharged have a habit of going bad when equipment has not been used for a long time. Equipment does not like long periods being in storage.

It is a good idea to take it to a tech and have them put it on a variable voltage Variac and bring the voltage up very slowly the first time. That helps the caps repolarize slowly and helps prevent problems.
